Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
After passing the subject the students will:
- obtain the piece of knowlege about the goals and priciples of logistics, about content of typical logistics activites and about the kinds of decision making in logistics,
- understand and be able to explain the impact of the way of flows organzation and control on logistics service level and logistics costs, as well as to explaint the logistics trade-offs,
- be able to solve the basic simple tasks from fields of inventory control, throughput planning, capacity bottle necks identification and products preferences on bottle neck, sequencing the tasks,
- be able to analyze the impact of inventories on financial measures, analyze inventory structure through ABC analysis, compare several kinds of distribution channels and kinds of transport.
Recommended Optional Programme Components
Common optional components are not offered, students of special interest can participate in departmental activities or can arrange consulting hours with lecturer.
Course Contents
1.What is logistics, the mission and principles of logistics management.
2.Typical logistic activities.
3.Consumer service level in logistics. Logistic costs. Logistic trade-offs.
4.Batch sizing, economic order quantity model.
5.Throughput time planning and analyzing.
6.Inventory management: reasons for holding inventory, functional classification of inventories, inventory replenishment model.
7.ABC classification and its implementation in inventory management.
8.Production planning and scheduling.
9.Synchronous operations philosophy, theory of constraints.
10.Lean management
11.Logistics in distribution: consolidation and deconsolidation, costs of distribution, cross docking, hub and spoke, logistic providers.
