he Georgius Agricola Scholarship is determined in the framework of integral cooperation for the support of study of foreign students in the bachelor´s, master´s and doctoral study programmes which are realized by VŠB - TUO.


The Georgius Agricola Scholarship is determined for paying expenses connected with a short-term study of a foreign student in bachelor´s, master´s and doctoral study programmes realized by VŠB - TUO for the period from one to five months; it is especially determined for completing chosen subjects, a project completion, a seminar work, a part of thesis.

Please read the following instructions and regulations:

Deadline:

In compliance with the start of Winter Semester of the Academic Year 2013/2014 the deadline for submitting Georgius Agricola Scholarship applications was postponed to April 30 2013. 

The applicants must submit the following documents in English:

  • the cover letter (the application for granting the G.Agricola Scholarship),
  • Conditions for granting the Georgius Agricola Scholarship at VŠB – TUO signed by the student
  • Student Application Form – Georgius Agricola Scholarship in two signed originals
  • Learning Agreement – Georgius Agricola Scholarship in two signed originals (containing data on the course of study and its results)
  • a CV with the given contact address, the telephone number and the e-mail address
  • a motivation letter from the foreign student
  • 2 letters of reference (in sealed envelopes) – from the sending university, the receiving department, other university etc.
  • documents on current study (the abstract of examinations from the university, the certificate about the bachelor state examination, etc. giving all marks). All the documents about education must be in English or in the language in which the classes will be. The originals must be confirmed by the foreign university – the stamp of the university, the signature of the Rector or the Dean of the Faculty etc
  • authorized approval declaring English language skills - minimum requirements: IELTS score 5,0, TOEFL internet-based score 62 (possibly other certificates at the same level).

STATUTES OF GEORGIUS AGRICOLA SCHOLARSHIPS

Article 1
Introductory Provisions

(1) The Georgius Agricola Scholarship is determined in the framework of integral cooperation for the support of study of foreigners (further on only “a foreign student”) in the bachelor´s, master´s and doctoral study programmes which are realized by VŠB – TUO.

(2) The Georgius Agricola Scholarship is determined for paying expenses connected with a short-term study of a foreign student in bachelor´s, master´s and doctoral study programmes realized by VŠB – TUO for the period from one to five months; it is especially determined for completing chosen subjects, a project completion, a seminar work, a part of thesis.

(3) The source of funds for the Georgius Agricola Scholarship is a scholarship fund and donations. In case the source of scholarship is a donation it must be stated in the donation agreement that it is determined for the Georgius Agricola Scholarship and for what period.

(4) An analytical sub-account will be created in the framework of the scholarship fund in the accounting system for which financial funds determined for paying the Georgius Agricola Scholarships will be concentrated.

(5) The Georgius Agricola Scholarship is not determined for students who were given a scholarship from international programmes.

(6) The Rector set priorities for granting the Georgius Agricola Scholarship for individual academic years which are based on the long-term intention at VŠB – TUO.


Article 2
Conditions for Granting Scholarship

(1) A student of a full-time form of study studying in a bachelor´s, master´s or doctoral study programme realized by a foreign university can apply for the Georgius Agricola Scholarship.

(2) A foreign student will submit a request for granting the Georgius Agricola Scholarship (further on only “a request”), (the form “Student Application Form” and “Learning Agreement”) confirmed by the sending foreign institution and VŠB – TUO.

(3) The student will enclose to the application further documents necessary for the study in a relevant study programme realized by VŠB – TUO which are given in Enclosure A. (4) The condition for granting the Georgius Agricola Scholarship is very good knowledge of the language in which the classes will be.

(5) The student will cover travel expenses from the place of his or her full-time study abroad to VŠB – TUO and back. The condition for granting the Georgius Agricola Scholarship is submitting the return ticket when entering the study.

(6) The upper age limit for granting the Georgius Agricola Scholarship is 35, the Rector can award an exception.

(7) The Georgius Agricola Scholarship is paid monthly retroactively. A student is obliged to have financial means at the amount 300 EUR as minimum (living costs for one month of study) and a returnable deposit for accommodation in the halls of residence at VŠB – TUO at the amount 200 EUR (financial means are given in the Czech currency Kč).

(8) The Georgius Agricola Scholarship is not determined for ensuring the stay of family members.


Article 3
The Board of the Georgius Agricola Scholarship

(1) The body for granting the Georgius Agricola Scholarship is the Board of the Georgius Agricola Scholarship which the Rector appoints as his advisory body. The chairman of the Board is the Deputy vice – chancellor for study. The members of the Board are the representatives of the individual faculties at VŠB – TUO.

(2) The members of the Board of the Georgius Agricola Scholarship are proposed by the deans.

(3) The activity of the Board of the Georgius Agricola Scholarship is regulated by the Rule of Procedure of the Georgius Agricola Scholarship which the Rector issues according to his own provisions.

(4) The Rector decides on the basis of the recommendations of the Board of the Georgius Agricola Scholarship on granting the financial means for the Georgius Agricola Scholarship.

Article 4
Handing in the Request for Granting the Scholarship

(1) A foreign student consults his interest in study in a study programme realized by VŠB – TUO with the relevant department of the faculty at VŠB – TUO.

(2) It is necessary to submit the request and further documents according to Article 2 Section 3 till 1st March or 1st October of the relevant academic year at the department of the deputy vice – chancellor for study at the address: Deputy Vice – Chancellor for Education, Department 920, 17. listopadu 15, 708 33 Ostrava – Poruba, Czech Republic.

(3) The request (the forms “Student Application Form“ and “Learning Agreement“ are submitted in two originals confirmed by the foreign university) and further documents according to Article 2 Section 3 are referred for recommendations at the relevant faculty or at the all – university offices.

(4) The faculty or an all – university office will confirm both pages of both original forms “Student Application Form“ and “Learning Agreement“ and in this way it is obliged to ensure the study of the student in the both organizational and factural ways.

(5) The Dean will determine the order of the students´ requests to whom he recommends the Georgius Agricola Scholarship in the given term or the academic year and he hands over the proposal to the Rector at VŠB – TUO.

(6) The Board of the Georgius Agricola Scholarship discusses the requests submitted to the Rector and on the basis of its recommendations the Rector will decide on granting the scholarship.

(7) The Rector grants the Georgius Agricola Scholarship. The number of granted scholarships depends on the amount of financial sources according to Article 2 of the scholarship regulations.

(8) The Rector´s decision on granting the Georgius Agricola Scholarship, with the confirmed forms “ Student Application Form“ and “Learning Agreement“ on both pages will be sent back in one copy to the foreign university together with issued documents which are required for granting a visa, if necessary. (9) The remaining two forms “Student Application Form“ and “Learning Agreement“ confirmed on both pages remain in the archives in VŠB – TUO.

Article 5
The Course of Study in the Study Programme Realized by VŠB – TUO

(1) The receiving department or the all – university offices will ensure study in the study programme.

(2) The student covers all meals and accommodation him/herself at VŠB – TUO at the non-subsidized amount from the granted Georgius Agricola Scholarship.

Article 6
Scholarship Paying

(1) The amount of the Georgius Agricola Scholarship for individual academic years is stated by the Rector.

(2) The Georgius Agricola Scholarship is paid monthly retroactively for the approved period of study.

(3) The Georgius Agricola Scholarship is paid in cash in the Czech currency (Kč) in payment terms at the payment office at VŠB – TUO.

Article 7
Scholarship Withdrawal

(1) A foreign student will be deprived the Georgius Agricola Scholarship in the case of:

a) commiting a disciplinary offence

b) neglecting study duties while following the study programme

(2) The Rector will withdraw the Georgius Agricola Scholarship on the proposal of the Board of the Georgius Agricola Scholarship.

Essential Documents of the Application Form for the Study Stay at VŠB – TUO

The applicants must submit the following documents in English:

  • the cover letter (the application for granting the G.Agricola Scholarship),
  • Conditions for granting the Georgius Agricola Scholarship at VŠB – TUO signed by the student
  • Student Application Form – Georgius Agricola Scholarship in two signed originals
  • Learning - Agreement in two signed originals (containing data on the course of study and its results)
  • a CV with the given contact address, the telephone number and the e-mail address
  • a motivation letter from the foreign student

I agree with the Statutes of the Georgius Agricola Scholarship and the conditions for granting this scholarship.

After my arrival at VŠB –TUO I will submit to the Institutional Coordinator:

  • the declaration of my own financial security (living costs for the first month of stay), i.e. 300 EUR and I will pay the returnable deposit 200 EUR for accommodation in the halls of residence at VŠB – TUO (financial means will be given in the Czech currency Kč)
  • the return ticket
  • a confirmation on health insurance in the Czech Republic

Basic University Regulations

Scholarship Regulations
at VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava

Article 1
Introductory Provisions

(1) Scholarhip regulations at VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava (further on only

VŠB – TUO) is issued in accordance with the Act No. 111/1998 of the Code, about higher education and about the change and amendments of other acts (the Higher Education Act), in wording of later regulations, (further on only “Act“) and all the faculties and other parts follow it.

(2) Students at VŠB – TUO can be awarded these scholarships from the sources given in Article 2:

 a) a scholarship for excellent study results according to §91, Section 2, Letter a) of the Act

 b) a special scholarship according to §91, Section 2, Letters b) to d) of the Act

 c) a postgraduate (doctoral) scholarship according to §91, Section 3, Letter c) of the Act

 d) a scholarship for the support of study of Czech Republic citizens abroad according to §91, Section 3, Letter a) of the Act

 e) a scholarship for the support of study of foreigners in the Czech Republic according to §91 Section 3, Letter b) of the Act

(3) A student has the right to obtain a scholarship if he or she fulfils conditions for its admisssion given in these scholarship regulations.


Article 2
Sources of Funds for Scholarships

Sources of funds for scholarships are:

a) subsidies provided by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Physical Education (further on only “MEYS“), other incomes from the state budget and state funds, public funds of higher territorial offices and municipalities, funds given in international agreements

b) the scholarship fund is formed:

 - from allocations from the economic result of the previous calendar year after taxation

 - from study fees according to §58 Section 3 and 4 of the Act

 - own yields at VŠB – TUO

 - donations

Article 3
Scholarships for Excellent Study Results

(1) A scholarship for excellent study results can be awarded by the Dean to students of the full-time form of study backdated for study results of the previous academic year.

(2) A scholarship is not granted to students in case of repeating or the repeated finishing of the same form at the same faculty.

(3) The amount of a scholarship for excellent study results is set by the Dean.

(4) The Academic Senate of the faculty can approve a decrease or increase of a scholarship for excellent study results on the proposal of the Dean and considering the amount of financial funds for the calendar year.

Article 4
Special Scholarships

(1) A special scholarship is awarded by the Rector, other head employee at VŠB – TUO authorized in writing by the Rector or the Dean on the basis of student request or from one´s own initiative in accordance with funds given in Article 2.

  a) for excellent study results of the student in sports and games, 

  b) in justified cases for expense payments concerning excursions or practice in the framework of the given accredited study programme,

  c) in cases worthy of special respect

(2) The Rector can award a special scholarship according to Section 1 also on the basis of the recommendation of the Dean of the faculty where the student is enrolled for study or in case of a special scholarship given in Section 1 Letter a) on the basis of the recommendation of the head of the Department of Physical Education and Sports at VŠB – TUO.

(3) The Dean can award a special scholarship except for cases given in Section 1:

  a) for extraordinary scientific, research and development, artistic or other creative results contributing to extending knowledge.

  b) for active work of the student in the academic senate of the faculty or in the Academic Senate at VŠB – TUO on the basis of the academic senate of the faculty or the Academic Senate at VŠB – TUO recommendation. In case of granting a special scholarship from the reason of a difficult social situation of the student according to Section 1 Letter

  c) the Dean will decide after ascertaining the family income according to the special legal regulation. (Act No. 117/1995 of the Code about state social welfare in the wording of later regulations).

(4) The amount of a special scholarship is stated by the Dean.

Article 5
Scholarships for Students of Doctoral Study Programmes

(2) (1) A scholarship can be awarded to students of the full-time form of Doctoral Study Programmes.

(3) A scholarship is stated by the Dean on a student´s request.

(4) A scholarship is paid monthly, as a rule for the period of 36 months.

(5) The amount of the scholarship, its reduction or increase is stated by the Dean.

Article 6
Scholarships Supporting the Study of Foreigners in the Czech Republic

The Georgius Agricola Scholarship is adjusted by the statute given in Enclosure 1.

Article 7
Scholarships Paying

(1) Law §68 of the Code refers to the decision on granting scholarship.

(2) The decision, which cannot be delivered, is being delivered in the form of notice on the official notice-board of the faculty or VŠB – TUO for the period of 15 days. The last day of this period is the day of delivery.

(3) The Dean or the Rector states the number of instalments and the month of paying scholarships for the whole pay period and he announces it in a usual way always at the beginning of the calendar year at the faculty or at VŠB – TUO.

(4) The scholarship is paid in the form of a direct transfer to the student´s bank account. The student will inform the study department of the faculty or other part of VŠB – TUO on his or her account number in a written form. The scholarship will be paid in cash in exceptional cases in payment terms at the payment office of VŠB – TUO. Article 8 Final Provisions (1) Scholarship regulations at VŠB – TUO from 25th January 1999 registered by MEYS under exhibit No. 12 592/99-30 in the wording of later changes are cancelled. (2) These scholarship regulations were approved by the Academic Senate at VŠB – TUO according to §9 Section 1 Letter b) of the Act on 4th May 2004. (3) These scholarship regulations are in operation according to §36 Section 4 of the Act on the registration day by MEYS. (4) These scholarship regulations come into force on 1st September 2004.
