Admission procedure and variety of programmes for incoming students
Incoming students have several possibilities to study at VŠB-TUO. It depends whether they want to obtain a degree from our University or if they want to gain experience and spend just a part of their university studies at VŠB-TUO. Mobile students are very welcome to choose from variety of programmes for Incoming students.

Insurance policy
All international students are obliged to take out the insurance policy covering hospital care in their home country before their arrival. If necessary, it can be arranged in the Czech Republic with a local insurance company. More information can be found at The Centre for International Reimbursments (CMU). As the Czech Republic is a member of the European Union citizens of EU countries, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland may stay temporarily in the Czech Republic without any permit, on the basis of a travel document or ID card.

The Czech embassy or consulate of the relevant home country will inform all international students about the visa application procedure. Travel information
There are several ways how to travel from your city to our city and reach our University. The easiest way is to take direct flight to „Ostrava Leos Janacek Airport“ http://www.airport-ostrava.cz/en/ . The other alternative is to fly to the capital city of Czech Republic where the Prague airport is http://www.pragueairport.co.uk/ . There are several companies providing a direct bus link from Prague to Ostrava, this journey takes about 5 hours and 20 minutes. The journey from Prague to Ostrava by SuperCity Pendolino train takes about 3 hours.
Ostrava Leos Janacek Airport is about 25 km from the Ostrava city centre which can be reached by bus, Airport Shuttle or taxi. VŠB-TUO University Campus is about 30 minutes journey by tram No. 8 (direction Poruba, Vřesinská) from the city centre. You can also hire a car at the airport.
The railway station closest to the University is Ostrava-Svinov station. You can take a taxi or go by tram to get to the University campus. The tram stop is about 300 metres from the railway station, and trams No. 7, 8, 17 (direction Poruba, Vřesinská) take about 10 minutes to the tram stop „17.listopadu“, which is close to the University campus and Halls of residence. The railway station in the city centre is „Ostrava - Hlavní nádraží (Main Station)“. From here tram No. 8 (direction Poruba, Vřesinská) goes to the University campus, and journey takes about 35 minutes.
Use tram No. 8 (direction Poruba, Vřesinská) to get to the university campus from Ostrava bus station (UAN), which takes about 20 minutes.

Those travelling by car can arrive in Ostrava from Prague by motorway in about 4 hours.
