The conditions of entry and stay of aliens in the territory of the Czech Republic are regulated by Act No. 326/1999 Coll., on Stay of Aliens in the Territory of the Czech Republic, as amended (the “Alien Act”). Citizens of the European Union, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland

Citizens of the EU, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland may stay temporarily in the territory of the Czech Republic without any permit on the basis of a travel document or an identity card.

The sole duty arising from the Alien Act to the citizens of the EU, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland is the reporting duty in case the stay exceeds 30 days. In such a situation, there is an obligation to report  his/her presence with the appropriate Foreign Police Department of Regional Police Directorate.within 30 days of an entry.

Third-Country Nationals

Students from Third countries are mostly required to have a valid visa or residence permit for their stay in the Czech Republic. The application for visa or residence permit must be submitted to the Czech embassy or consulate which will provide all information regarding the latest requirements.

We recommend you to apply for long-stay visa or long-term residence permit for the purpose of study. In this case the timeframe for processing the application is 60 days as of the date the application is submitted. Long-stay visa is granted with a period of validity of 6 months. For stays over 6 months we recommend you to apply for long-term residence permit.
 
Nationals of third countries are obligated to report their presence in the Czech Republic with the appropriate Foreign Police Department of the Regional Police Directorate within a timeframe of 3 working days of their entry to the Czech Republic.
