Specific Arrangements for the Recognition of Prior Learning
Informal learning - max. 60% of credits gained in prior lifelong learning can be recognized, as determined by the Dean of the Faculty.

Qualification Requirements:
Finished secondary education with secondary school-leaving exam.
Regulations:
The Czech educational system is regulated by the Higher Education Act (Act 111/1998). Studies at VSB-TUO are regulated by the Statute of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
Profile of the Branch
• To train specialists that are able to solve practical economic problems, with appropriate use of theoretical frameworks and application of analytical approaches and methods. • To help graduates strengthen the ability to choose adequate economic policy tools, with a view to achieving given socioeconomic goals and fostering socially preferable changes. • To target a satisfactory matching of graduates’ qualifications with the requirements of current competitive labour markets, both nationally and internationally.

Knowledge:
The graduates of Applied Economics bachelor programme with specialization in Economic Development acquire extensive knowledge and understanding in the following areas: • general economics, • economic growth and development, regional development • economic policies, with special focus on fiscal and monetary policies, • banking and finance, • labour market and human resource management, • business development, • quantitative and qualitative research methods.
Skills:
• Knowledge of Tax Policy and Subsidies • Analytical Skills • Knowledge of Economic Policy, Public Administration and Local Government • Knowledge of Statistical SW • Analysis and Process Modelling • Knowledge of Employment Law • Knowledge and Analysis of Market • Creation of Strategic Analysis and Planning • Creation of Advanced Quantitative and Qualitative Analyses • Preparation and Implementation of International Projects • Knowledge of EU Processes
General competencies:
Graduates gain various skills and competences, such as: • interpreting current and past economic development in the framework of modern economic approaches, using appropriate quantitative tools and techniques, • understanding and convincing communication about the specific economic problems and formulation of possible measures and economic policies, • formulation of own ideas in written and oral form at a high level, and ability to present, discuss and defend conclusions and own opinions, • using the knowledge, skills and competences in at least one foreign language, • making independent and responsible decisions, • coordination of the activities of a team and presentation of the opinions and conclusions
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples
Graduates of the Applied Economics bachelor programme are good candidates for jobs in public administration and self-government entities, in human resources, foreign trade or project and subsidy management.

Remark:
Course block: Compulsory - all courses are compulsory.
Course block: Choice-compulsory - student has to choose at least one course from the list of courses.
Course block: Optional - student can choose any course from the list of courses.
 
IMPORTANT: Student has to select so many courses to reach 30 ECTS credits per semester. Rules in detail and convenient selection of courses can be consulted with the programmme director.
Bellow stated courses are assigned for the degree studies only. Students coming to VSB-TUO for an exchange stay must select courses from the List of courses for exchange students.
