Summary
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
To clarify basic relations on labour markets
To interpret investments in human capital
To explain wage diferences on labour market
To discuss unions influence at labour markets
To analyze employment policy effects and to classify programmes
To identify basic problems of the Czech labour market
To describe active and passive labour employment in the European union
Course Contents
1. The Demand for Labour in Competitive Markets (The Short Run – Demand Schedule, Demand for Labour in the Long Run)
2. Labour Supply (Labour Force Participation, Hours of Work of Effort)
3. Unemployment (Unemployment, Types of Unemployment, Unemployment Dynamics,
NAIRU)
4. Investment in Human Capital (The Nature of Human Capital, Age - Earnings Profiles, Skills Acquired at School, Skills Acquired on the Job)
5. Earnings - Effects of Race and Gender on Earnings (Theories of Discrimination, Measuring Discrimination).
6. Inequality of Earnings and Income
7. Unionized Labour Markets ( Unions: Grows and Goals, Union Methods: The Bargaining Process, Union’s Impact on Labour Markets)
8. Migration (Theories of Migration, Migration Effects)
9. Employment Policy and Labour Market Policy (Definitions, Goals, Passive and Active Programmes)
10. Labour Market and Employment Policy in the Czech Republic
