Summary
The course serves to acquire a basic orientation in law with a focus on the areas most relevant to the economic professions. Students will understand basic legal concepts and institutes, learn to use legal terminology, understand the system of the Czech legal system and its individual branches. They will be able to work with relevant sources of law and search in legal information systems. The student will gain an elementary overview of all basic areas of law; closer attention is focused on commercial law, which is the most important for economic disciplines (in particular, emphasis is placed on corporate law and commercial contracts).
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Student will be able:
• to describe legal order of the Czech Republic, to name particular legal fields
• to identify particular legal fields and deduce the rights and obligations of legal relations participants. To distinguish individual legal fields (private and public)
• to analyze concrete legal problems in order to distinguish those and connect them with proper legal regulation
• practically apply gained knowledge when studying further legal subjects
• to describe regulatory environment, define its subject, outline the methods of regulation and list basal forms of regulation,
• to comprehend principles of the public law and private law regulation and to explain differences between them
• to apply gained knowledge and comprehension to interpret and solve model situations
Course Contents
1. Introduction to law. Functions and role of law in society, sources of legal information.
2. System and structure of law, division of law, National law, international law, EU law.
3. Sources of law, legal norm, concept, structure and elements. Classification of legal norms and their characteristics. Forms of implementation of legal norms, concept of legal relationship.
4. Interpretation of law. Application of law. Legal responsibility.
5. Public law.
6. Private law.
7. Law in the world of business and commerce. Business of natural and legal persons.
8. Business corporations I
9. Business corporations II
10. Commercial contracts I
11. Commercial Contracts II. Entrepreneur and consumer.
12. Law against unfair competition, unfair commercial practices, protection of competition
13. Labour law. Concept, sources, employment relations, employment relationship.
14. Dispute resolution.
