Summary
The subject provides basic information about the structures and the physical and mechanical properties of construction materials and methods of determining these properties. It is focused on a specific building materials, particularly on issues of aggregates, ceramics, wood, metal, glass, binders, mortars and insulation materials. Increased attention is paid to concretes, their design, manufacture, maintenance and testing.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The objective of the course is to acquaint students with the properties, use, production and range of basic building materials. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in evaluation of physical and mechanical properties of building materials in the design and composition of building materials and choice of materials for use in building construction.
