Summary
This course continues the subject of undergraduate study railway construction and extends student's knowledge of new concepts from the area of rail track in the area of theoretical and practical applications. It deepens the theoretical knowledge and familiar with their application for structural elements of the superstructure, substructure, as well as new features associated with building high-speed lines and modernization of railways and the building of railways in the special conditions (effects of mining activities, flood plains).
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The aim of this course is to acquaint students with the railway superstructure and substructure and to practice the acquired knowledge and skills. The course follows and also extends the knowledge and skills acquired in the bachelor courses of study. Students gain wider knowledge in structural design and diagnostics of Railway. Graduating student is able to describe and solve problems such as construction of superstructure, assess the resistance elements of rail tracks, design and assessment sleeper subsoil and other buildings substructure. The student acquires the skill to formulate problems, build design solutions, applying knowledge and skills in problem solving in the field of railway construction.
Course Contents
- Theoretical foundations - track, rail vehicle operating load tracks
- Methods of calculating the bearing capacity of the railway superstructure, course load bearing capacity and assessment of the individual elements of railway superstructure
- Geometric and structural parameters of the track
- Construction of adhesive track and the cog track, tools for increasing of the track stability
- Switches, crossings
- Special structures in the track (check rail, protective tracks)
- Structural adjustment at level crossings, bridges, cleaning and browsing pits, rail scales and rail brakes
- Continuous welded track - theoretical foundations, progressions the stresses, conditions for setting
- Diagnostics of railway superstructure (inspections, manual measurements, measuring vehicles, non-destructive testing)
- Construction of the railway superstructure of tramway and metro
- Construction of special tracks (funicular railways, crane ways, mining tracks)
- Principles of design and implementation of railway infrastructure development in conditions affected by mining activity and floodplains
- Solid figure of railway substructure - Construction of sleeper subsoil and railway substructure, protection of slopes, the transition the railway substructure on bridges
- Drainage of railway lines and stations, drainage structures and equipment (culverts, inverted siphons, siphon tubes, overflows, chutes). Buildings of railway substructure. Protective equipment and buildings.
