Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Qualification Requirements:
Finished secondary education with secondary school-leaving exam.
Regulations:
The Czech educational system is regulated by the Higher Education Act (Act 111/1998). Studies at VSB-TUO are regulated by the Statute of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
Profile of the Programme
The aim of the study in the four-year Civil Engineering study program is to prepare graduates for activities in all areas of construction activities for which they acquire the relevant theoretical and professional knowledge and skills. After the first two years of joint study, focusing on theoretical foundations and core vocational subjects, students continue their specializations (Traffic Construction, Geotechnics and Underground Construction, Building Construction, Urban Engineering, Building and Industrial Construction, Building Environment and Building Materials and Building Diagnostics), where they acquire knowledge focused on specific areas of the construction industry and in this area also elaborate their final (bachelor) thesis. The study of specialization, thanks to the previous joint study, allows the student flexibility in the possibility of transition to any field of construction activities. In the fourth year, in addition to specialized vocational subjects, students work on projects related to their final work. Study of the study program is completed by verification of knowledge from two thematic areas resulting mainly from profiling subjects and defense of the final bachelor thesis.
Key Learning Outcomes
Key Lerning Outcomes are Expressed in following Structure: Knowledge, Skills, General competencies
Knowledge:
The graduate profile of the newly proposed bachelor program Civil Engineering will be more broadly focused than the graduate profiles of the current B3607 civil engineering programs. As part of the joint study, the graduate, in addition to theoretical subjects (mathematics, physics, descriptive geometry), completes professional subjects in the field of building construction, engineering, transport and geotechnical buildings, building materials, building geodesy, building services and urban engineering. Within the compulsory elective courses, the student will deepen his education in the selected specialization (Building and Industrial Construction, Urban Engineering, Building Materials and Building Diagnostics, Transport Construction, Geotechnics and Underground Construction, Building Environment and Building Construction). The graduate will find employment in design offices as well as on construction sites or building offices. Graduate will meet the requirements for professional practice to meet the conditions for authorization in the fields of "Building construction", "Urban engineering", "Traffic construction", "Geotechnics", "Environmental engineering of buildings", "Testing and diagnostics of buildings". The graduate will be theoretically equipped for the follow-up university Master's study of technical specialization of related study programs at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of VŠB-TU Ostrava or at other faculties of construction in the Czech Republic and abroad.
Skills:
Graduate will meet the requirements for professional practice to meet the conditions for authorization in the fields of "Building construction", "Urban engineering", "Transport construction", "Geotechnics", "Environmental engineering", "Testing and diagnostics of buildings". The graduate will be theoretically equipped for the follow-up university Master's study of technical specialization of related study programs at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of VŠB-TU Ostrava or at other faculties of construction in the Czech Republic and abroad.
General competencies:
Master study programs: Civil engineering - Traffic construction Civil engineering - Geotechnics and underground engineering Civil engineering - Building structures Civil Engineering - Urban Engineering Civil engineering - Building and industrial construction Civil engineering - Building environment Civil engineering - Building materials and building diagnostics Graduates of the follow-up Master's degree program will be able to continue in the content-related programs of the doctoral degree program.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples
Graduate will meet the requirements for professional practice to meet the conditions for authorization in the fields of "Building construction", "Urban engineering", "Traffic construction", "Geotechnics", "Environmental engineering of buildings", "Testing and diagnostics of buildings". The graduate will be theoretically equipped for the follow-up university Master's study of technical specialization of related study programs at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of VŠB-TU Ostrava or at other faculties of construction in the Czech Republic and abroad. Graduates of the bachelor's study program Civil Engineering will find employment both in design offices, as well as on construction sites or building authorities. Building and industrial engineering - designer of building and industrial buildings, site manager, quality control and management. Urban engineering - designer of ground and industrial buildings and utilities, site manager, planning office officer and at the spatial planning or investment departments Building structures - designer designing engineering constructions or providing their operation, repairs and reconstructions, site managers. Transport construction - designer, site manager, technologist, production and investment preparation, investment and engineering, quality control and management. Geotechnics and underground engineering - graduates find employment not only in specialized geotechnical companies, but also in companies with more general construction focus. The graduate of this specialization also meets the requirements for education prescribed by the State Mining Administration of the Czech Republic for obtaining gunners' license. The graduate has the possibility of authorization in the field of Geotechnics at ČKAIT. " Construction environment - construction technician with a focus on technical equipment of buildings in the positions of construction technician designer, construction technician master, construction technician preparation and implementation, investment and engineering. Building materials and building diagnostics - technologist of production and building organizations, construction specialist, technical consultant, employee of state and private testing and research institutes.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Examination regulations, assesment and grading are described in the Study and Examination Rules.
