Summary
The course presents advanced qualitative methods of hazard identification in technologies and quantitative methods of risk analysis. It will also deal with the analysis of human failure in technological operations. Part of the course will address functional safety.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Within the course, students will gain deeper knowledge and application procedures in the area of hazard identification and risk assessment in various technological processes leading to serious industrial accidents. Learning outcomes of the course unit The course introduces students to more advanced tools in the area of risk assessment necessary for the prevention of major accidents.
Course Contents
1. Qualitative methods of hazard identification in technologies.
2. Index methods (DOW).
3. Qualitative Methods - Advanced Methods (HAZOP, FMEA).
4. Fundamentals of probabilistic engineering - reliability
5. Mean time between failures, determination of device control interval.
6. Quantitative Methods - Fault Analysis Using a Fault Tree.
7. Failure propagation analysis using the event tree method.
8. Analysis of sources of human failure in chemical plants.
9. Quantification of individual and social risk.
10. Probit function.
11. Functional safety.
12. SIL level determination, safety valves.
13. LOPA Analysis.
