Profile of the Branch
The Bachelor’s course is three years long and graduates is awarded the academic degree of Bachelor (Bc.). The course is taught both in full-time and combined form. The aim of the three-year Bachelor’s course of Electrical Power Engineering is to bring up a Bachelor as a university-educated operational expert for all areas of electrical engineering, possessing the basic knowledge of the relevant theory as well as practical skills. The student acquires a broad basis of knowledge in the branches of heavy-current electrical engineering and power engineering. The Bachelor’s study is focused mainly on the preparation of students for the exercise of a profession that applies the contemporary findings and methods of the given branch. The course follows up on the subjects of the theoretical basis of study and is supplemented with the subjects from heavy-current electrical engineering, such as electrical machines and devices, electric drives, high voltage engineering, theoretical electrical engineering, transmission and distribution of electric power, power plants, production and use of electric power, operation and control of electrification systems, electric light and heat, economics and management in electrical engineering, use of computers in electrical engineering, etc., all with the application of computer technology. Great emphasis is placed on foreign languages.
Key Learning Outcomes
Key Lerning Outcomes are Expressed in following Structure: Knowledge, Skills, General competencies
Knowledge:
The graduates in the Bachelor’s course possess: - broad knowledge and understanding of the subject and extent of the given branch - broad knowledge of the theory, concepts and methods of the branch - understanding of the possibilities, conditions and limitations of applying the theory, concepts and methods of the branch in practice
Skills:
The graduates in the Bachelor’s course can: -deal with practical problems of the given branch on the basis of a generally defined assignment, using their expert knowledge -search for, sort out and interpret information relevant for the solution of a defined practical problem -apply some of the elementary research procedures of the branch in the division necessary to solve practical problems of the branch
General competencies:
The students of Bachelor’s programmes are able to: -make individual and responsible decisions in less-well-known contexts on the basis of a general assignment -coordinate the operation of a team according to a general assignment and defined sources, and bear responsibility for the results -consider ethical aspects of the given problem -communicate to both experts and laymen the information about the nature of technical problems and their own opinion concerning the solution in a comprehensible and convincing way -sum up the opinions of other team members in a comprehensible way -apply their expert knowledge, professional skills and general competence in at least one foreign language -acquire further professional knowledge, skills and competence, mainly on the basis of practical experience and its evaluation, but also by individual study of the theoretical findings in the branch
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples
The graduates in Electrical Power Engineering are able to deal with operational and technical problems in the area of generation, transmission, distribution and use of electric power. They will find employment in industry, dealing with the issues of electric drives, electric heating equipment, electric lighting of indoor and outdoor areas, in engineering and operating sections of power plants and distribution companies, in sections of preparation and operation of electrification systems, as well as in technical, assembly and operational sections of industrial plants.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Examination regulations, assesment and grading are described in the Study and Examination Rules.
