Students learn to use all types of measuring instruments such as analog, digital as well as virtual ones, which they will even be able to try to get together. Different methods will be able to measure basic electrical quantities and passive components.
An integral part of each measurement is the knowledge of quantifying the uncertainty of measurement.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Students learn to use electrical measuring instruments, measuring the basic electrical parameters and passive components.
An integral part of the student's knowledge competencies is quantifying the uncertainty of measurement.
Course Contents
1.Accuracy and error of measurement. Errors of analog and digital instruments, errors of direct as well as indirect measurements, random errors, total measurement error.
No harmonic waveforms of electrical quantities. Representation of periodical waveforms using Fourier transformation; form, crest and distortion factors.
2.Measuring converters.
3.Analog and digital measuring instruments.
4.Analog oscilloscopes.
5.Digital oscilloscopes.
6.Chart recording instruments.
7.Frequency analyzers.
8.Virtual measuring instruments, GPIB, RS 232, USB, Ethernet, VXI/ PXI measurement systems, development programming environments.
9.Methods for measuring active electrical quantities (voltage, current, power, frequency, period, time intervals).
10.Methods for measuring passive electrical quantities (resistor, inductance, capacitance, dissipation factor, quality factor, impedance).
11.Magnetic measurements. Measuring of ferromagnetic characteristics, display of hysteresis loops.
12. Disturbing effects and their limitation, EMC.

-Initial theoretical training, safety in the laboratory.
-Measuring of voltage and current.
-Measuring of passive components.
-Impact of frequency and waveform shape on measuring instrument's indication.
-Analog oscilloscopes.
-Measuring of single-phase power.
-Measuring of powers across unbalanced three-phase load.
-Measuring of frequency, period and phase shift.
-Magnetic measurements.
-Virtual measuring instruments, LabView.
-Digital oscilloscope and its control using GPIB bus.
-Practical test measurement.
