Summary
The goal of the course is to get the students acquainted with the area of multimedia, which is done both from the technical point of view as well as from the point of view of creating, adjusting, transmitting, and analysing multimedia data. The fundamentals of the multimedia document design are presented too.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The student will understand the technologies that are used in multimedia and he/she himself/herself will be able to exploit them actively.
Course Contents
Lectures:
1. Digitalisation of the acoustic and image signals. Digital methods of signal processing. Camera systems.
2. Introduction into the analysis of images and video sequences.
3. Compression of image signals.
4. Compression of video signals.
5. Introduction into the sound synthesis and analysis.
6. Distribution of multimedia data in DVB - fundamental principles. Creating the transport stream in DVB, systems of encryption.
7. Introduction into virtual reality.
8. Archiving and retrieving the sound and image documents.
9. Introduction into augmented reality.
10. Advanced techniques in augmented reality.

Computer labs:
1. Cameras and camera systems, capturing images, fundamental operations with images.
2. Image filtering, point operations.
3. Fundamentals of digital processing of acoustic signals.
4. Testing the algorithms for image/video compression.
5. Streaming video and sound.
6. Sound synthesis and analysis.
7. Analysis of video sequences: motion detection, tracking the objects of interest.
8. The use of image sensors in virtual reality.
9. Augmented reality application development.
10. Augmented reality application development.
