Summary |
---|
This course follows the Electrical Apparatus course. This subject amount of protection, fuse and circuit breaker constructions are deal with. Function of contactors in electrical circuit and their construction. Overvoltage in power system and overvoltage diverters. Design and project power resistors, inductors and capacitors. There is also discussed basic problems of electric contacts and DC and AC electromagnets.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit |
---|
Studens know electrical terminology of electrical devices. They also will describe the basic design of electric devices, setting of tripping units, measurement of basic characteristic and practical using of electric devices in area of electrical power engineering and electric driving systems. |

Lectures:
1.Transients effects and their influences to design and operation of electric apparatus
2.Protection of electric circuits, fuses, circuit-breakers, current limiting function, I2t let-through energy
3.Fuse - basic design, operation, time interval of electric arc burning, extinquishing of electric arc
4.Circuit Breakers - basic design, operation, tripping units, electromagnetic trip
5.Contactors - basic design, operation, life cycle, basic wiring of electric circuits with contactors
6.Selectivity, protection, setting of protection units
7.Conductors - conductors design, skin-effect, DC and AC resistance
8.Electrical contacts - basic design, basic types of contacts, used materials
9.Electromagnet - design, energy converter
10.DC and AC electromagnet - static and transient force characteristic
11.Separators, electromagnetic holders, permanet magnets

Basic design of contacts of switching aparatus
Basic design and computing of DC electromagnet

Measurement of thermal trip of low voltage circuit breaker
Measurement of temperature rise of low voltage circuit breaker
Measurement of let-through energy of low voltage circuit breaker
