Summary
The subject is focused on the understanding of the basic principles, design and operations of electrical drives for the utilization in automotive systems. The content of this subject is based on knowledge of electronics, electrical machines, mechatronic systems and cybernetics.
Learning outcomes:
Students acquire knowledge on the basic principles, structure and properties of important electrical drives used in automobiles.
Acquired skills:
Acquired skills forms general knowledge of the bachelor that is focused on automotive systems.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The main aim of the subject is to obtain theoretical knowledge in the area of electrical drives and practial skills with their applications.
The obtained information creates the knowledge base of bachelor, who applies the electrical drives in the area of automotive systems.
Course Contents
Lectures:
Overview of basic types and structures of electric drives of automotive systems.
Electric motors for drives of automotive systems. DC motors. BLDC motors. Stepper motors. Switched reluctance motors. Basic overview and properties.
Permanent magnet synchronous motors. Induction motors. Basic overview and properties.
Power semiconductor converters for electric drives of automotive systems. Structures and properties.
Kinematics and mechanics of electrical drives.
Warming and dimensioning of electric drives.
Basics of control theory. Controlled system. Controllers. Control quality. Methods of analysis and synthesis.
Drive units of electric vehicles. The basic control structures of the induction motor and permanent magnet synchronous motor. Speed control. Torque control. Electronic differential.
Vector control of the induction motor and permanent magnet synchronous motor.
Direct torque control of the induction motor and permanent magnet synchronous motor.
Electrical drives with stepper motors. Basic structures and properties.
Microcomputer control systems of electrical drives. Basic requirements and structures.
Sensors. Current and voltage sensors. Position sensors. Speed sensors.
Signal processing for microcomputer control systems of electrical drives. Analog circuits and digital circuits for signal processing.

Frequency converter dimensioning at frequency control of induction motor - examples.

Repetition, consultations, repair of the control tests, the replacement of the laboratory exercises.

Laboratory task No.1 - DC servodrive with the MAXON motor.
Laboratory task No.2 - DC drive with the BLDC motor.
Laboratory task No.3 - Electrical drive with the stepper motor.
Laboratory task No.4 - Permanent magnet synchronous motor drive with the vector control.
Laboratory task No.5 - Induction motor drive with the direct torque control.
