Summary
This course is designed to help the first-year students improve
their understanding of fundamental principles of physics. After the
introduction of the scientific approach to understanding nature, the
role of measurement and basic units, it is mainly focused on the topics
of mechanics of particle-like bodies, statics of rigid bodies and
simple mechanics of fluids. The significance of conservation laws in
physics is pointed out.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Repeat the basic knowledge from grammar school physics.
Define and characterize the basic physical principles and laws.
Solve the simple exercises and discuss their results.
Course Contents
Basic units and quantities of the International System of Units (SI), vectors and their usage in physics.

Kinematics of point-like objects, position vector, distance, velocity, acceleration, angular velocity and acceleration. Movements in Earth's gravitational field and along the circle.

Dynamics of point-like objects, linear momentum, Newton's motion laws. Illustration at examples of body at inclined plane with and without the friction. Inertial and drag forces.

Energy, work, conservation of mechanical energy and linear momentum.

Mathematics of infinitely low intervals, application of derivatives and integrals in physics.
