Summary
The subject deals with steady running conditions of different type of electrical networks and failure state in electrical networks.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
To define basic electrical power terms.
To relate produce of electrical power in diferent types of power plants.
To describe basic electrical parameters of lines.
To list failure states in electrical networks.
To explain basic principles of power factor correction.
To discriminate loses in electrical distribution.
To outline Terms Power Quality.
Course Contents
Lectures: 1.-Basic electrical power terms, produce of electrical power in power plants, balance of produce and consumption of electrical power. 2.-Transmission and distribution of electrical power, electrical parametres of lines, effective resistance. 3.-Inductance, capacitance, conductance. 4.-Steady running conditions of electrical networks, simple DC line (LV, MV). 5.-Three-phase LV and MV lines and networks, MV nodal networks. 6.-HV and UHV lines. 7.-Failure states in electrical networks, short circuits in electrical networks, characteristics of short circuit effects. 8.-Terminology and identification of short circuit currents, short circuit current timing course. 9.-Calculation of short circuit conditions. 10.- Ground fault, ground-fault compensation. 11.-Power system operation, structure of power system, basic diagram of power station. 12.-Loses in electrical networks and their reduction. 13.-Power factor correction. 14.-Power quality.

Numeric exercises:1.-Basic electrical power terms (systems, loading diagram). 2.-Balance calculations of power plants. 3.-Electrical parametres of lines, effective resistance, inductance. 4.-Capacitance, conductance. 5.-Steady running conditions of LV and MV electrical lines. 6.-Calculations of HV long lines. 7.-Power factor correction. 8.-Loses in electrical networks. 9.-Calculation of short circuit conditions in network. 10.-Calculation of short circuit conditions in network. 11.-Test.

Laboratory exercises: 1.-Measurement on model of line. 2.-Measurement of power factor correction. 3.-Measurement on protection.

Projects: 1.-Calculation of steady running conditions of short line. 2.-Calculation of long line. 3.-Calculation of short circuit conditions in network.
