Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Qualification Requirements:
Finished secondary education with secondary school-leaving exam.
Regulations:
The Czech educational system is regulated by the Higher Education Act (Act 111/1998). Studies at VSB-TUO are regulated by the Statute of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
Profile of the Programme
The Bachelor’s course is three years long and graduates is awarded the academic degree of Bachelor (Bc.). The course is taught both in full-time and combined form. The aim of the three-year Bachelor’s course of Electrical Power Engineering is to bring up a Bachelor as a university-educated operational expert for all areas of electrical engineering, possessing the basic knowledge of the relevant theory as well as practical skills. The student acquires a broad basis of knowledge in the branches of heavy-current electrical engineering and power engineering. The Bachelor’s study is focused mainly on the preparation of students for the exercise of a profession that applies the contemporary findings and methods of the given branch. The course follows up on the subjects of the theoretical basis of study and is supplemented with the subjects from heavy-current electrical engineering, such as electrical machines and devices, electric drives, high voltage engineering, theoretical electrical engineering, transmission and distribution of electric power, power plants, production and use of electric power, operation and control of electrification systems, electric light and heat, economics and management in electrical engineering, use of computers in electrical engineering, etc., all with the application of computer technology. Great emphasis is placed on foreign languages.
Key Learning Outcomes
Key Lerning Outcomes are Expressed in following Structure: Knowledge, Skills, General competencies
Knowledge:
Graduates of the Bachelor's study program demonstrate: - a broad knowledge and understanding of the subject and scope of the field. - a broad knowledge of theories, concepts and methods of the field. - an understanding of the possibilities, conditions and restrictions on the use of theories, concepts and methods of the field in practice.
Skills:
Graduates of the Bachelor's study program are able to: - solve practical problems of the field using expertise based on a general definition of the task. - find, organize and interpret information relevant to the defined practical problem. - use some basic field research procedures to the extent necessary for solving practical problems of the field.
General competencies:
Students of the Bachelor's study program are able to: - make independent and responsible decisions in only partially known contexts based on a general assignment. - coordinate the activities of a team and assume responsibility for its results according to general assignment and allocation of resources. - include consideration of the ethical dimension of the addressed issues. - clearly and persuasively communicate both to professionals and laymen about the nature of the technical problems and their own opinion on their solution. - comprehensively summarize the opinions of other team members. - use their expertise, skills and general competence in at least one foreign language. - independently gather additional expertise, skills and competence based mainly on practical experience and its evaluation, but also through separate study of theoretical knowledge of the field.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples
Graduates of Electrical Power Engineering are able to solve operational and technical problems in the production, transmission, distribution and use of electricity. They will find employment in the industry addressing issues of electric drives, electro-thermal equipment, electric lighting of indoor and outdoor spaces, as well as in the technical and operational units of power plants and transmission and distribution companies, departments of preparation and operation of the electricity grid and also in engineering, installation and operating divisions of industrial plants.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Examination regulations, assesment and grading are described in the Study and Examination Rules.
Curriculum:
Remark:
Course block: Compulsory - all courses are compulsory.
Course block: Choice-compulsory - student has to choose at least one course from the list of courses.
Course block: Optional - student can choose any course from the list of courses.

IMPORTANT: Student has to select so many courses to reach 30 ECTS credits per semester. Rules in detail and convenient selection of courses can be consulted with the programmme director.
