Summary
Introduction to general chemistry. The electron shell structure, the periodic table and chemical bonding. Chemical kinetics, equilibrium and energetic changes at the chemical reactions. Acid-base and oxidation-reduction reactions. Principles of electrochemistry. Chemistry of coordination compounds.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
- Acquirement of the basic terms in the field of the atomic structure and chemical bonding
- Knowledge of the relationship between the properties of elements and periodicity of the electron shell build-up
- Knowledge of the patterns of the chemical reactions course
- Arrangement and enumeration of chemical equations, performing stoichiometric calculations
- Fundamentals of thermodynamics and kinetics of chemical reactions.
- Acidobasic and oxidation-reduction chemical reactions.
Course Contents
1. Chemical nomenclature. Basic terms. Calculation of the mixture composition. Atom structure.
2. Stoichiometric calculations. Mass balance of the simple system.
3. Electron configuration. Chemical bonding.
4. Periodic table patterns.
5. States of matter. Phase diagram of one-component system. Ideal gas laws.
6. Chemical reactions. Chemical kinetics.
7. Energetic changes at chemical reactions. Fundamentals of thermodynamics.
8. Chemical equilibrium.
9. Acid-base reactions in solutions and melts.
10. Oxidation-reduction reactions.
11. Electrochemical series of potentials. Galvanic cells. Electrolysis.
