Summary
The subject is lectured with focus on understanding the basic findings from the field of theory and technology of iron production. Study is focused on batch materials and their modification, technological principles of production and basic chemical, thermal and physical processes taking place during iron production in the blast furnace and during alternative manners of iron production. Further the subject is focused on basic findings and theoretical knowledge of processes taking place during steel production aiming at physical – chemical processes, technological principles of production in the primary steelmaking aggregates, manners of steel dezoxidation and alloying.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
- student will be able to express the basic physical – chemical processes taking place during iron production and processes taking place during steel production in the primary aggregates introducing converters, tandem furnaces and electric arc furnaces, including dezoxidation and steel alloying,
- student will be able to use the basic theoretical knowledge and technological principles during iron and steel production,
- student will be able to use (in the basic level) his knowledge from the field of iron and steel production in the operational conditions.
