Summary
Definition, goals, essential principles, and development of logistics in industrial enterprises and supply chains. Logistics management of main logistics processes (purchase, production, and distribution) and supporting logistics processes (inventory control, warehousing, material handling, packaging, and transportation). Concepts, systems and tools for logistics management of industrial enterprises.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Student will be well informed in principles and conceptions used for logistics management of industrial enterprises and supply chains, will meet with main and supporting logistics processes and will acquire tools and methods suitable for analysis and solving of logistics problems.
Course Contents
1. Logistics management of industrial enterprise - definition, objectives, basic principles.
2. Industrial supply chain management - development and the latest trends of industrial supply chain management.
3. Purchase logistics management - definition, types of pruchasing situations, purchasing process, supplier evaluation and selection.
4. Manufacturing logistics management - definition, reasons for its development, logistics solutions in manufacturing, logistics in Czech industrial production, types of production and their impact on logistics.
5. MRP/ERP systems - definition, structure and example of utilisation of MRP I systém in industrial production, MRP II, ERP, and APS systems.
6. Theory of Constraints and DBR system - definition of Theory of Constraints, ongoing improvement process, DBR system and possibilities of its application in industrial production.
7. Just-in-time concept and Kanban system as main pillars of Lean manufacturing - just-in-time concept definition, comparison of traditional and JIT manufacturing, problems with JIT implementation, JIT implementation in industrial production, alternative solutions, Kanban and Milkrun system.
8. Distribution logistics management - definition and reasons of its development, structure of industrial distribution chains, Distribution Requirement Planning, ECR and QR systems.
9. Inventory analysis and control - reasons for holding inventories, inventory costs, inventory classification, methods and recommendations for inventory control.
10. Packaging and handling - definition, packaging and handling units, handling equipment.
11. Warehouse management - definition, warehouse activities and technologies.
12. Transportation and transport - definition, industrial transport segmentation, selection of mode of transport.
