Summary
Casting as a product of the foundry industry, possibilities and limits, engineering and technologic requirements. Mode of castings production from the design to finishing. Wood and metal patterns making. Molding materials, sand, binders, mold and core making technologies. Specialities of art castings manufacturing.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Acquired knowledge
- Student will be able to analyse and compare basic methods of mold and core making
- Student will be able to describe basic processes during forming a casting from pouring it up to metal cooling
Acquired skills
- Student will be able to explain the formation of the most important casting defects
- Student will be able to design a technological process of making an art casting (a mold, a gating system, venting).
Course Contents
1. History and the present of the foundry industry
2. Procedures of casting production description of individual production units, Production of castings using permanent metal mold and lost sand mold
