Summary
Students will get a comprehensive overview of industrial furnaces and other energy equipment, their use and structures. They will also familiarize themselves with the heating systems used in industrial furnaces, the basic types of burners and the characteristics of the flame.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The course aims to introduce students to different energy devices commonly used in our plant, their principles, their linings and thermal régime.
Course Contents
• Overview of basic energy equipment
• Industrial furnaces. Separation of furnaces according to the technological purpose, according to the heat source, according to the working space. Efficiency of furnaces.
• Melting furnaces - blast furnace, cupola, converter, tandem furnace, electric arc furnace.
• Heat treatment furnaces - continuous and folding furnaces.
• Induction and electron furnaces.
• Glass furnaces.
• Chamber furnaces, tunnel, shaft, carousel, rotary.
• Furnaces linings - overview of refractory materials designed for furnaces linings.
• Fundamentals of the theory of combustion, stabilization of the burning queue, limits of ignition, activation of combustion reactions, activation energy and ignition temperature. Inhibitors and burning catalysts.
• Burners for gaseous, liquid and solid fuels, characteristics and calculations of basic types of burners, classification of flame properties, heating systems and their applications in practice.
• Industrial burners of injector, with flow mixers, whirling, radiant, pulse, regenerative, regenerative. Ignition, stabilization and pilot burners. Low-emission burners.
• Regulation of the power and combustion ratio of gas burners.
• Temperature and pressure measurements in furnaces and piping systems. Flow measurement.
• Transit pipelines, compressor stations.
• Basic equipment for the preparation of raw materials in power engineering.
• Boilers - fluid, powder, grate.
