Summary
The course focuses on the description of the foundry technologies used for the production of art castings, the description of the principles of the production of the permanent and permanent foundry model in dependence on the technology used in the production of the non-durable form and the analysis of the foundry materials used in casting production. Students will be briefed on the possibilities of Rapid Prototyping.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Student will be able to:
- Describe the basic steps of producing castings;
- Define the technological process of production of artistic castings, briefly describe the basic requirements for production of the permanent and permanent model;
- To characterize basic casting technologies into disposable and permanent molds;
- Use the knowledge of metallurgy of foundry alloys for their optimal use in the production of art castings;
- Distinguish basic casting technologies;
- Describe the influence of casting technology on the structure and mechanical properties of the material.
Course Contents
1. Introduction to the study. The history of the production of art casts in the history of mankind.
2. Introduction to art casting production. Brief characteristics of foundry technologies.
3. Casting technology using a one-time casting model.
4. Casting technology using a permanent casting model.
5. Casting technology using one-time casting mold.
6. Casting technology using permanent casting molds.
7. Metal materials for the production of art castings.
8. Melting and metallurgical treatment of foundry alloys.
9. Casting alloy casting processes.
10. Finishing operations of castings.
11. Surface treatment of final castings.
12. Possibilities of using Rapid Prototyping technologies for the creation of art castings.
