Finished secondary education with secondary school-leaving exam. |
Regulations: |

The Czech educational system is regulated by the Higher Education Act (Act 111/1998). Studies at VSB-TUO are regulated by the Statute of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava. |
Profile of the Programme |
---|
This modern study program educates graduates in the foundations of natural science, providing an overview of the properties and structure of substances, general knowledge of chemical and environmental engineering, chemical and physical methods of analytical chemistry, knowledge of environmental assessment methods and the respective impact of technologies. Obligatory elective subjects give graduates, in the course of their studies, the opportunity to profile into two directions – chemical-engineering and environmental. The acquired knowledge is based on selected current scientific knowledge and methods.
The main characteristics of this study program include the universality of graduates' employment. The graduates are able to hold middle-level positions in all types of analytical and testing laboratories; they can hold middle-level positions in the chemical, engineering, metallurgical and manufacturing industries aimed at minimizing environmental impacts. The comprehensive theoretical background of graduates enables them to continue their education in master's degree study programs, especially in the technical field.

Key Learning Outcomes |
---|
Key Lerning Outcomes are Expressed in following Structure: Knowledge, Skills, General competencies |
---|
Knowledge: |
---|
The graduates have broad knowledge of natural scientific subjects, basic subjects focused on ecology and environmental protection, information technology and material science. They demonstrate thorough knowledge of technological processes in industry (chemical, metallurgical, manufacturing, waste management, etc.). The graduates have extensive knowledge of analytical chemistry, which they can apply in chemical and physical analysis of various materials and environmental compartments, as well as statistical methods of data processing relevant to both chemical and environmental engineering. They have the necessary knowledge for professional and general communication in a foreign language. |
Skills: |
---|
The graduates are able to carry out chemical and physical analysis of different types of materials and environmental components in testing and operational laboratories of industrial enterprises, they can collect and interpret relevant data, and form judgements that include reflection on relevant social, scientific or ethical issues. On the basis of their technical skills the graduates are able to solve partial problems in designing and managing industrial processes.
|
General competencies: |
---|
The graduates can decide independently and responsibly while solving partial tasks of the given problem. They are able to coordinate the work of a team according to the assignment outline and be responsible for its results. They are able to communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions to both professionals and laymen. The graduates are able to develop their theoretical and practical skills so that they can continue their studies and acquire a higher degree of autonomy. |
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples |
---|
The graduates can hold middle-level positions of skilled workers in chemical production as well as other plants requiring knowledge of how chemical and chemical-technological processes work, or middle-level positions in all types of analytical and inspecting laboratories in industry, healthcare and government, or they can become quality managers of analytical laboratories. They can also hold lower and middle management positions to control the impact of technologies on the environment in industrial companies, government, environmental, urban and municipal authorities, and in companies and institutions involved in environmental advisory, design and research. The comprehensive theoretical background of the graduates enables them to continue their education in one of the subsequent master's degree study programs, particularly in the technical field. |
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading |
---|
Examination regulations, assesment and grading are described in the Study and Examination Rules. |
