Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Qualification Requirements:
Finished higher education in Bachelor's degree programme.
The Czech educational system is regulated by the Higher Education Act (Act 111/1998). Studies at VSB-TUO are regulated by the Statute of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
Profile of the Programme
The aim of the study program is to educate specialists in the area of thermal energy extraction from classical and non-traditional sources, transmission and conversion of energy in thermal energy facilities, management of thermal energy in connection with development, production and application of ceramic materials in energy devices.
Key Learning Outcomes
Key Lerning Outcomes are Expressed in following Structure: Knowledge, Skills, General competencies
• Graduates understand physical and chemical principles and technologies for obtaining thermal energy from traditional and alternative energy sources, the use and conversion of thermal energy in industry and in the communal sphere, • are familiar with methods of analysis and design of thermal aggregates, systems of accumulation and distribution of heat, refractory structures, • know the consequences of the use of thermal energy on the environment, understand the theory and technology of thermal treatment of waste, • know software tools for solving thermal energy transfer tasks and for designing and modelling of thermal processes and equipment, evaluation of operational and experimental data, • understand the theory of thermodynamics of ceramic systems, the properties of ceramic materials, are acquainted with the processes of production, testing and use of ceramic materials.
• Graduates are able to analyze and design progressive thermal energy devices and optimize their design, function and material composition with respect to performance, environmental and economic parameters, • are able to design a suitable method of heating and cooling, to determine the energy balance, to propose measures for increasing efficiency and ecology of thermal equipment using experimental measurements and computing, • use modern methods of theoretical and experimental research on the properties and structure of ceramic systems, can apply the design and realization of structures from refractory ceramics, • in solving engineering problems they use theoretical and experimental research methods, software tools, physical and numerical modeling and methods of statistical analysis, • are ready for further self-education and use of future technologies and engineering methods.
General competencies:
• Graduates of the study program demonstrate professional competencies at a creative engineering level consistent with the current state of knowledge in the areas of thermal energy processes and ceramic materials used in thermal facilities, • they are able to solve technical problems, improve existing ones and design new solutions, present results, lead and educate subordinate professionals, • in addition to the theoretical and professional knowledge, graduates have soft skills, are equipped with at least one foreign language, master computer skills at an advanced level, are able to work with specialized software solutions for computational, design and simulation tasks and for statistical data processing.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples
Graduates of the study program will be employed as experts in the fields of thermal energy, thermal technology and ceramic materials for thermoelectric equipment both in positions in the production process, where technical erudition and the ability to solve technical problems are solved, as well as in technical development positions in which creative and innovative capabilities are required, as well as in management and managerial positions, in the administration and in the business sphere. Typical job positions: • Operational and developmental thermal technician in power plants and heating plants • Energy producer of a chemical, engineering or metallurgical enterprise • Energy in institutions, offices, commercial buildings and residential areas • Technician in the operation of gas systems, biogas stations and cogeneration plants • Technician in thermal treatment or waste incineration • Technician and developer of production and processing ceramic factories • Developer and calculator of thermal equipment and aggregates • Manager at the level of the manager of the operation, the plant, the company • Business consultant in the field of thermal equipment and ceramic systems • Expert in industrial and building thermal technology and industrial ceramics
