Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Qualification Requirements:
Finished higher education in Master's degree programme.
Regulations:
The Czech educational system is regulated by the Higher Education Act (Act 111/1998). Studies at VSB-TUO are regulated by the Statute of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
Profile of the Branch
The aim of the doctoral study in the proposed program is: • Training of highly educated workers in all areas of power engineering, who will be prepared to work in research and development in commercial companies, research institutes and organizations in our country and abroad, at universities or in high positions of state administration. • To enable the doctoral student to develop his / her abilities to process the latest scientific knowledge in the field of study, thus enabling them to work independently in the field of applied but also basic research. • The doctoral student is led not only to gain knowledge in the field of study, but also to its further development. • The focus of the study is primarily on basic and applied research in the following areas: development of primary, secondary and tertiary power machines and equipment, combustion, environmental technology, process engineering, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer or general thermomechanics. • Graduates are well versed in the field of demanding computational and experimental modeling. • Graduates are able to publish scientific results of their work in Czech and especially English.
Key Learning Outcomes
Key Lerning Outcomes are Expressed in following Structure: Knowledge, Skills, General competencies
Knowledge:
The aim of the doctoral study is to deepen the theoretical knowledge of the follow-up master's degree program and to acquire knowledge for the complex use of energy sources and reducing energy intensity, increasing the energy transformation efficiency of traditional sources, minimizing the generation and emission of pollutants from energy sources and the use of renewable sources. During the study the student will become acquainted with the process of transformation of primary energy into thermal energy, electric energy, pneumatic energy, ..., with efficient use of raw materials, incl. biomass and waste, will be able to identify sources of pollution, will use diagnostics of energy processes, patterns of heat and mass transfer, etc.
Skills:
The graduate profile is broadly thematically divided into four areas: thermal power machines and equipment, industrial power engineering, environmental engineering and renewable energy sources. Professional skills of the doctoral program graduate consist in the possibility of complex design and construction of steam and gas turbines, turbocompressors, volumetric and jet compressors, classical and flue gas steam generators, steam-gas devices, regulation and automation of power machines and designing power centers. Emphasis is also placed on waste disposal and energy recovery. Professional skills include the use of methods and means of physical and numerical modeling of energy processes.
General competencies:
The general abilities of graduates are, due to the aforementioned complex scope of the field of study, very broad: • The graduate has skills and abilities in the field of publishing and sharing R&D results in Czech and especially English. • Since the graduate profile corresponds to the current state of scientific knowledge in the field of energy engineering, it allows him / her further personal development in the field. • The graduate is a creative personality capable of independent and team scientific work, has sufficient skills for the preparation, implementation and management of R&D projects. • The graduate is able to transfer results between basic and applied research and to cooperate in multidisciplinary international scientific teams.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples
Graduates are eligible as: • researcher in energy companies, research institutes and manufacturers of energy machinery and equipment with their own research and development. • Senior designer and manager of research projects in the field of energy and environmental technology. • in power plant and heating plant operation management, • in the construction of thermal and nuclear energy, • in institutions, institutions and state administration departments dealing with energy, safety and environmental care, • for energy companies, including the possibility of self-employment (energy auditing, consulting and advisory services).
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Examination regulations, assesment and grading are described in the Study and Examination Rules.
