Summary
Measuring temperature, pressure, flow and analysis of gaseous components of flue gases. For teaching the use measuring instruments and equipment department of energy used in engineering practice. During lectures and seminars, students are introduced to the operation of instruments and learn the basics of proper application of measuring instruments. The course is excursion to energy facilities in the Ostrava region, usually Detmarovice Power.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The subject deals with measuring methods of basic physical quantities used in energetics. Measuring of temperatures, pressures, flow and analysis of gas factors of combustion gases. For education there are used measurement instruments and eguipment of energy department used in technical practice.
Course Contents
1. Importance of measurement and diagnostics in power engineering. Measurement Reporting Policy.
2. Temperature measurement - devices based on expansion of liquids and gases. Solids expansion devices. Resistance thermometers. Thermocouples.
3. Temperature measurement - principles for correct measurement, installation of thermometers, network measurements. Contactless instruments, pyrometers, thermovision.
4. Pressure measurement, basic concepts and units, vacuum, overpressure, atmospheric pressure and its measurement.
5. Pressure measurement - liquid devices, liquids. Deformation devices. Piezoelectric, capacitive and tensometric measurements.
6. Pressure measurement - principles for correct installation of pressure gauges, level measurement.
7. Fluid flow measurement. Basic terms, propeller, turbine, volumetric meters.
8. Measurement of air flow. Basic terms, volumetric meters. Flow measurement by throttle organs. Speed ​​probe flow measurement, multi-hole speed probes.
9. Flow measurement - inductive flowmeters, ultrasonic flowmeters, vortex flowmeters.
10. Connection of pressure and differential pressure sensors, level measurement in boiler body, inlet height.
11. Calculation of density of mixtures of gases from chemical composition and volume concentration. Mass and volume concentrations and their conversion.
12. Flue gas composition at the exit of combustion plants. Approximate concentrations of individual components depending on fuel and type of combustion equipment. Respecting emission limits.
13. Measurement of oxygen concentration in flue gas for combustion process control. Determination of water in flue gas. Conversion to dry and wet flue gas
14. Measurement of gaseous components of flue gas for emission measurements. Instruments, computational relationships.
