Qualification Requirements and Regulations |
---|
Qualification Requirements: |
---|
Finished higher education in Bachelor's degree programme. |
Regulations: |
---|
The Czech educational system is regulated by the Higher Education Act (Act 111/1998). Studies at VSB-TUO are regulated by the Statute of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava. |
Profile of the Programme |
---|
The aim of the study is to obtain education in the field of technologies of electrical and thermal energy production, focusing mainly on ecology and diagnostics of operation of these resources, whether of the existing, or the emerging ones. The aim is for the students to acquire quality skills and expertise for the development of these competencies in future employment, where they will work as technically proficient experts in the field of technological operations of electricity and heat production and their greening.
Thanks to the compatible interconnection of the lectures, teaching in laboratories and practical training in industrial companies, the general goal of this programme may be considered the acquisition of comprehensive knowledge and skills, which will meet the current and future requirements of employers in the energy sector.

Key Learning Outcomes |
---|
Key Lerning Outcomes are Expressed in following Structure: Knowledge, Skills, General competencies |
---|
Knowledge: |
---|
The profile of the graduate shall be primarily that of an expert in technical specialisation in the field of operation, diagnostics and greening of energy equipment, especially in respect of combustion of fossil and alternative fuels. The graduate shall specialise in state-of-the-art diagnostic methods, technologies of primary and secondary methods of reducing emissions in flue gases and the options of implementing new procedures, methods and technologies leading to reduction of discharged pollutants. |
Skills: |
---|
The graduate will be familiar with the issues of physical and chemical processes in combustion processes, flue gas purification systems and optimisation of existing energy technologies with regard to reducing emissions. The graduate will have a good understanding of the construction of energy units, especially fossil fuel combustion units and the requirements for energy sources utilised in the Czech Republic as well as around the world, with regard to their operational, environmental and economic requirements in the relevant power plants. The graduate will be able to use diagnostic methods and equipment for a detailed description of physical and chemical processes in combustion processes, apply mathematical models for simulations of these processes and thus will be also able to verify them. The graduate will acquire the ability to approach solution of problems of engineering practice with the support of computer and laboratory experiments. |
General competencies: |
---|
Graduates are able to approach creatively and proactively to work, manage more complex professional activities or projects, including planning, implementation and feedback, take responsibility for all related decisions, effectively work under the guidance or partnership of qualified professionals, and lead multi-member, comprehensive and diverse groups. They are able to formulate and present their own views, reflect views of other members of the group, to communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions comprehensively to professionals and laymen using a variety of techniques, to use knowledge and skills in at least one foreign language.
In addition, graduates are able to use basic ICT skills, consistently assess their own learning and identify their own learning needs in an unknown and changeable environment requiring a high degree of autonomy and helping others find learning needs. Graduates are able to work in various job positions in the field of energy. |
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples |
---|
The graduates will have a very good opportunity to apply their expertise in practice in the Czech Republic, as well as abroad, especially:
- in energy engineering companies focusing on greening (in the development, designing, construction, calculations, production, assembly and testing),
- in companies focusing on detailed diagnostics and/or simulations of energy processes with regard to their optimisation/greening,
- in the management of operation of power plants and heating plants, in particular in terms of the optimisation of the operations and the related environmental aspects,
- in investment projects of construction of power plants and heating plants,
- in institutes, institutions and state administration departments dealing with energy, security and care for the environment,
- in companies engaged in business activities in the energy sector, including the option of self-employment (energy auditing, consulting and advisory services).
The students will gain an internationally-recognised degree which will also open doors into institutions dealing with research, innovation and scientific activities.
Typical job titles:
• Worker in energy engineering companies focused on greening, in their development, design, construction, production, assembly and testing divisions.
• Operations, design and management member of staff in departments ensuring ecological operation in power plants, heating plants and other energy production plants.
• Energy - ecologist in energy departments in all types of industrial enterprises.
• Member of staff or management in institutes, institutions and state administration departments dealing with ecology and care for the environment.
