Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Qualification Requirements:
Finished secondary education with secondary school-leaving exam.
Regulations:
The Czech educational system is regulated by the Higher Education Act (Act 111/1998). Studies at VSB-TUO are regulated by the Statute of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
Profile of the Programme
The first four semesters of the science and engineering base are common to the study program of each field. Subsequently, students study one of the 12 study fields. The students work on projects related to their bachelor thesis within the subjects Bachelor Project and Year Project. In addition to their own work, the emphasis is on quality, sufficiently large and critical summaries of the problem being solved, not only from journals and books, but also using Internet search engines. Emphasis is placed on the ability to use advanced computational methods and effectively evaluate the outcomes and technical measurements. Study of a field is completed by passing the State Examination in two subjects according to a field and by defense of a thesis. Graduates of the Bachelor degree program may continue in the field focused study in the master's program N2301 "Mechanical Engineering ", the standard period of study for both full-time and part-time study is two years, followed later by doctoral studies.
Key Learning Outcomes
Key Lerning Outcomes are Expressed in following Structure: Knowledge, Skills, General competencies
Knowledge:
Graduates demonstrate knowledge of mathematics, constructive geometry, physics, computer graphics, computational methods, mechanics of rigid and deformable bodies and the environment, material science, thermodynamics and hydromechanics at a level enabling them to show their practical application. Graduates demonstrate knowledge of engineering materials, manufacturing technology, machine design, design of manufacturing and control systems within a particular field of study. Graduates know the main principles of scientific methods of a field and can use some basic options in practical contexts.
Skills:
Graduates can use the technical terminology and prepare technical documentation. Graduates can read technical drawings of products or parts and can design the most effective ways and methods of their production. Graduates can perform an expert analysis of machinery and production technology, and are able to analyze and evaluate technical solutions. Graduates can prepare, implement and compile a report on the results of laboratory and technical experiment. Graduates can verify new methods of production, and collaborate in the implementation of technological changes and innovation activities. Graduates are able to decide on the method of quality control and technical examinations, and collaborate on product quality control. Further development of professional skills is being pursued within individual fields of the study program for the Mechanical Engineering degree.
General competencies:
The study program uses extensive collaboration with industrial partners in both the organization and provision of education and in solving technical problems in practice within the Seminar and especially Bachelor thesis.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples
Graduates will find employment in the technical-operational, marketing and management positions in production facilities in engineering and other industries, as well as in the departments of the preparation and organization of production, in the design and construction of technological equipment, in the design and construction of plant operations, or as workers in testing, development departments and diagnostic centers. Graduates can also easily focus on related engineering fields.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Examination regulations, assesment and grading are described in the Study and Examination Rules.
