Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Qualification Requirements:
Finished higher education in Bachelor's degree programme.
Regulations:
The Czech educational system is regulated by the Higher Education Act (Act 111/1998). Studies at VSB-TUO are regulated by the Statute of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
Profile of the Programme
Graduates are able to analyze, simulate, and design production, technology and information processes and equipment, and design their control systems using modern means of automation and computer technology, such as CATIA, AutoCAD, but also so-called large CADs, covering the construction work and design besides an area of technical preparation of production. Graduates gain very important knowledge from the subjects of mechanics, machine parts, the construction of machinery and equipment, flexibility and strength, graphic objects (like CAD) and computer programs. A graduate of the Master's degree obtains deep knowledge of technology during the study of theoretical, applied and professional subjects in the field. He/she is equipped with the skills and knowledge, enabling him/her to increase his/her professional growth by creative involvement in a production process, or to continue in a doctoral study. Graduates will find employment in the technical-operational, marketing and management positions in production facilities in engineering and other industries, as well as the departments of preparation and organization of production, in the design and construction of technological equipment in the design and construction of plant operations, or as heads of testing laboratories, development departments and diagnostic centers. Graduates can also easily orient in related engineering fields. Within the study program, students study one of 7 fields of study. Graduates of the master's degree program may continue in the area of study in the doctoral program P2301 "Mechanical Engineering ", the standard period of study for both full-time and part-time students is 4 years.
Key Learning Outcomes
Key Lerning Outcomes are Expressed in following Structure: Knowledge, Skills, General competencies
Knowledge:
Graduates demonstrate a deep knowledge of mathematics, constructive geometry, physics, computer graphics, computational methods, mathematical modeling, mechanics of rigid and deformable bodies and the environment, material science, thermodynamics and Hydromechanics to permit their practical application. Graduates demonstrate a deep knowledge of engineering materials, manufacturing technology, machine design, manufacturing planning and control systems within a particular field of study. Graduates can critically examine issues in their field, focus on interdisciplinary problems.
Skills:
Graduates can use the technical terminology and prepare technical documentation. Graduates can read technical drawings of products or parts and design the most effective ways and methods of their production. Graduates can perform expert analysis of machinery and production technology, and are able to analyze and evaluate technical solutions. Graduates can develop new methods for solving engineering problems within the field. Graduates can develop and implement a technical or laboratory experiment and produce a report on the outcome of the experiment. Graduates can design the technical means and their number, nature and a type of equipment and machinery for production on the basis of an established procedure and the target capacity. Graduates can test new methods of production, collaborate on the implementation of technological changes and innovation activities. Graduates are able to decide on the method of quality control and technical tests, and to collaborate on the product quality control. Graduates are able to provide technical supervision in the workplace, and to monitor the compliance of technological processes. Graduates are able to ensure technical provisions for changes of products and introduce new products. Graduates can verify new methods of production, and collaborate on the implementation of technological changes and innovation activities. Graduates are able to manage work teams and to plan their activities and present achievements. Further development of professional skills is being pursued within individual fields of the study program for the Mechanical Engineering degree.
General competencies:
The study program uses extensive collaboration with industrial partners in both the organization and provision of education, and in solving technical problems in practice within the Seminar and especially Bachelor thesis.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples
Graduates will find employment in the technical-operational, marketing and management positions in production facilities in engineering and other industries, as well as in the departments of preparation and organization of production, in the design and construction of technological equipment, in the design and construction of plant operations, etc.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Examination regulations, assesment and grading are described in the Study and Examination Rules.
