Summary
The subject extends knowledge about causes of rock massiv and surface movement
as a result of mining subsidence, and possibilities of protection against
mining subsidence.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Course deals with causes of surface movement as a result of mining works, theory of effective area, prognosis calculation methods, possibilities of surface and mine object protection.
Course Contents
Lectures:
1. Mining damage, their origin and causes, effects of mining subsidence, mining impact borders. Theory of moves from the effects of mining works in rock mass and on the surface. Movements in the mined overburden deposits, its spread, limit angle of impact.
2. Theoretical shape of subsidence trough and parameters of movement and deformation of - drop, shift, tilt, curvature and horizontal strain.
3. Forecast the effects of mining subsidence on surface and structures, the theory of effective areas.
4. The theory of efficient allocation of space for steep seam. The shape of subsidence trough at multiple undercutting and powerful cover.
5. Computer preliminary calculations, the effects of mining. Effects of time on the course of the movement, the time factor.
6. The theory of effictive area for steep seam. The theory of distribution fully effective areas based on the measured results.
7. Ensuring the stability of existing buildings. Preventive protection.
8. Protective pillar surface objects. Construction of protective pillars in a flat bearing deposit. Shapes protective pillars.
9. Construction of protective pillars in the oblique bearing. Principles of legislative protection of the surface.

Exercise:
1. The effects of mining on the mining landscape, Video
2. The determination of the impact of mining on the basis of the measured subsidence. Longitudinal profile of subsidence trough.
3. Determination of tilt, radius of curvature of the measured results. (Excel)
