Summary
The aim of the subject is to classify rock properties from the point of view of general and physics aspects, compare the individual properties in terms of their causes and explain their contexts, analyze acquired knowledge, deduce individual characteristics from individual laws and compile individual parts of teaching from literary and other sources. To consider the interrelationships between the properties of the rocks and their early and rheological behavior.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Student characterises rock materials from the physical point of view. He describes their physical properties and predicts material behaviour in various physical conditions. Student applies his knowledge for solution of model situations, analyses theoretical and experimental results and on that base he modifies practical applications or evaluates them.
Course Contents
1. Introduction - repetition of the structure of substances and basic theories of fabric construction.
2. Physical properties of rocks according to sample size and condition - influence of internal / external factors on rock properties.
3. Mechanical properties - density, elasticity, strength, plasticity and rheological behavior of rock properties.
4. Acoustic properties - dependence of characteristics on internal and external factors.
5. Thermal properties - patterns of heat propagation in rock, thermal expansion of rocks.
6. Electric and magnetic properties of rocks 1 - polarization, permittivity, permeability.
7. Electric and magnetic properties of rocks 2 - electrical conductivity of rocks, magnetism.
8. Electromagnetic radiation and rock 1 - optical properties of rocks, X-ray radiation.
9. Electromagnetic radiation and rock 2 - optical and X-ray radiation and rock.
10. Radioactive radiation and rock 1 - rock radioactivity, decay series.
11. Radioactive radiation and rock 2 - time development of radioactivity in rock, the effect of radioactive radiation on rocks.
12. Multicomponent systems - equilibrium in single and multicomponent systems, metastable states, phase transitions.
13. Mutual relations - influence of rock properties on physical phenomena, classification of rocks according to physical properties.
