Summary
The subject is intended for students of technical or economic orientation or humanities. Students will be introduced to the soft skills with a focus on self-management and diagnostics (charting their own strengths and weaknesses), effective communication and career planning.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
- Definition of the soft skills and their professional development opportunities
- Basic time-management
- Development of the communication skills including training of selected communication techniques (presentation, self-presentation, negotiation with the client)
- Identifying own strengths and weaknesses based on diagnosis
- Preparation for a tender
Course Contents
The subject is intended for students of the Faculty of Mining and Geology. Soft skills, soft skills represent competencies that help people in easier and more successful civic coexistence, and at the same time they must be an integral part of their work competencies. The course will focus on the development of competencies necessary for the everyday life of a person, especially competence to solve problems, communication and communication competencies, social and personal competencies, competencies of creative and critical problem solving, competencies of complex personality development and last but not least competencies related to optimal use of modern information and communication technologies. Students will recognize themselves, their personality, their team role, etc. by means of different psychological tests. The emphasis will be on mutual communication, self-presentation, assertiveness and assertive behavior, self-management, self-management and time -management. Students will create a portfolio and a CV. A recruiter will be invited to the classroom to highlight the issues of staff selection, job interviews, career planning, and at the same time make a short "selection procedure."

Soft skills - acquainting students with the meaning, description, areas of personal development of students.
Self-management - Developing the ability to drive oneself.
Structured CV, motivation letter, personal portfolio - structure and content. Preparation for Tender - Tender Organization, Assesment Center, Model Situation.
Communication skills - communication scheme, communication phase, types of communication.
Nonverbal communication - function, analysis of basic signals, modification of the communication space.
Verbal communication - Interview, principles of effective communication.
Communication techniques - presentation, leadership, moderation, self-presentation.
Negotiation with the client - tactical aspects of dealing with the client, managing manipulative approaches.
Career Planning - Diagnostics (Career Type, Team Roles, Self Recognition - Holland, Belbin, etc.).
Time management - Developing the ability to plan, follow schedule, adhere to deadlines.
