Summary
The subject deals with the concept of monument care in terms of valid legislation focusing on technical monuments and industrial areas. Students manage specialist terminology in the area of monument care. They demonstrate knowledge in exploration and restoration methodologies focusing on industrial monuments. Graduates are able to orientate themselves in the field of conservation and maintenance of monuments, they can determine the significance of the historical value of industrial objects in the context of brownfields redevelopment.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The subject deals with the concept of monument care in terms of valid legislation focusing on technical monuments and industrial areas. Students manage specialist terminology in the area of monument care. They demonstrate knowledge in exploration and restoration methodologies focusing on industrial monuments. Graduates are able to orientate themselves in the field of conservation and maintenance of monuments, they can determine the significance of the historical value of industrial objects in the context of brownfields redevelopment.
Course Contents
1. Introduction to heritage preservation (basic terms, cultural monument, national cultural monument, UNESCO monument, technical monument, protected area…).
2. International cultural heritage documents (meaning and content).
3. Brief history of monument care.
4. Legal framework of monument care in the Czech Republic and its system.
5. Legal framework for the preservation of monuments in some European countries(Germany, England,…)
6. Conception of protection of technical monuments in the Czech Republic and EU countries.
7. Value criteria of technical monuments and conservation of their typological features.
8. Typology and its development of mining structures and metallurgical structures.
9. Typology and its development of other heavy industry constructions.
10. Typology and its development of light industry.
11. Typology and its development of agricultural buildings.
12. Examples of restoration of historical technical, industrial and agricultural areas and objects in the Czech Republic (concept, importance, impacts, ..)
13. Examples of restoration of historical technical, industrial and agricultural areas and objects in Europe and in the world (concept, importance, impacts, ..)
