Summary
Basic terms. Importance of air conditioning in deeper mines. Risks connected
with unsuitable microclimatic conditions. Effect on human health and
performance. Methods of measuring and assessing the microclimatic conditions.
Admissible limits of microclimatic quantities. Thermal and calorific balance of
deep mine. Degree of climatic difficulty. Thermal fluctuations of mine air –
sources of heat, cold, and humidity; calculations. Projecting of cooling
equipment – air conditioning diagrams, calculation of needed cooling output,
losses of the cooling output. Waste heat.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The aim of this subject is understanding of micro climatic conditions of deep mines and their solving. Projecting of the cooling equipment – air conditioning diagrams, calculation of needed cooling output, losses of the cooling output.
Course Contents
1.Introduction to the subject. The importance of conditioning the process down into large depths. Definition of basic concepts
2.Micro-climate risk: Effect of micro-climate on humans. Methods of measurement and evaluation of micro-climate. Permissible limits of temperature;conditions in our country in the world
3.Heat and thermal balance of the mine. Resources warming cooling winds. Degree of difficulty climate
4.Research of temperature fields: Temperature measurements of the original rocks.
5.Methodist of winds calculating temperature changes
6.Conditioning of mine air: Natural ways to improve mine micro-climate (Intensification of ventilation, reducing heat and humidity, Winds descending lines, etc.)
7.A mechanical mine air cooling: A survey of cooling. Possible
principles and methods of cooling. Applications in mines
8.Cooling facilities with the steam circulation: Parts of refrigerating equipment. Cold,
compressors, evaporators, condensers, cooling winds. Fans, pumps,pipes, fittings, refrigeration equipment
9.Cooling facilities for mines: cooling systems, cooling schemes.
Mobile refrigeration, stationary air-conditioned.
10.Types of refrigeration equipment in our mines. Requirements for refrigerants
11.The elements of conditioning design in mining conditions. Determination
required cooling capacity. Determination of the extent of air conditioning needed.

12.Safety regulations, returns to the issue of air conditioning in mines
13.Reduction of energy demands for air conditioning. Modern progressive mining technology to solve air-conditioning
