Summary
The subject offers the basic information about the methodology of drilling exploration. It is focused on the problems connected with drilling geological exploratory and operating technical boreholes (expecially the boreholes used for the purposes of investigation and exploitation of oil and gas deposits, boreholes used for groundwater tapping; quarrying boreholes, underground mining boreholes etc.). The students have also possibility to get acquainted with the new modern technologies and technical means used in drilling exploratory activity and deep hole drilling. Within the frame of the lectures and tutorials they can get acquainted with the fundamental problems of borehole projecting (designing). The subject is intent on these next topical spheres.
Primary problems of well projecting – principles of well projecting, predicting of geological profile and its drill – technological analysis, pressure conditions in the wells and their analysis. Disintegration of rocks in drilling process. Drilling tool classification according to rock drilling disintegration. Drilling tools – roller bits – construction, fundamentals of kinematics, jet bits, bit option for various rock types. Drilling drive – oprimum drilling drive, option of the main drilling drive parameters. Drilling string – functional composition of drilling string, critical stress calculation. Casing string – functional composition of casing string, critical stress calculation. Well design, casing methods, casing string failures. Well
cementation, cementing mixtures, cementing materials and cement additives, well cementation technology. Project of vertical well and calculations connected with solution of technical and technological parts of the well project.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The main goal of this subject is to make students acquainted with the basic methods used by drilling geological – exploratory and operating – technical boreholes. Within the frame of study the students will learn to define basic methods of drilling these types of boreholes and to describe and characterize technical means and technological processes used during their realization. They can apply their theoretical knowledge within the frame of the computation tutorials, the result of which will be a simple executed project of a deep oil and gas exploitation well (borehole) – (geological, technical and technological part of the project). Within the frame of its solution they will be able to solve by use of the calculations the construction of the well depending up the geological and geotechnical conditions of the service area, where it is situated. Within the frame of the project elaboration the students will find the suitable solution varieties of the several partial tasks, to analyse these select solution processes and to propose a final form of a deep well project by use of synthesis optimum varieties. The students must be able to give reasons for the designed construction of the well and to defend it with a view to geological and technical aspects of drilling. Last but not least, the student have to learn how to judge the importance of information they will meet during their study, to compare its importance and point out this which is decisive for their next professional experience.
