Summary
The subjetc includes topics as the protection of the amount and quality of
surface and ground water from the technical and legislative solution.
Purpose and importance, factors influencing water sources in the Czech
Republic, posibilities to increase the amount and quality of ground water,
water uptakes and use, water recources balance, development of the amount and
quality of water.

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with water protection. Explain the principles of legal and technical protection of water, protection of water quantity and quality. The course includes protection of water resources and waterworks, waste water discharge, accidental water pollution and legislative water protection.
Course Contents
1. Water protection, purpose and importance, general water protection, legal protection of water in the Czech Republic.
2. Water Act, purpose and object of the Act, basic obligations for water management. Use of surface waters for navigation.
3. Permission, statement and consent as an instrument of water protection. Permission to construct a water works.
4. Water works, types of water works, TBD obligations, operating and handling schedules.
5. Protection of water conditions and water resources, groundwater (PDOAV, master plan, sensitive and vulnerable areas).
6. Water resource protection zones, surface water used for bathing and fish life support.
7. Protection of water quantity and water quality, wastewater, types of wastewater, conditions for discharge (emission standards, volume measurement).
8. Pollutants in water, nature of pollution, particularly hazardous substances according to the Water Act.
9. Water planning, flood protection, drought and water scarcity management.
10. Management of hazardous substances, details of emergency plans, accidents and their disposal.
11. Accidental deterioration of water quality, oil pollution, methods of remediation.
12. Water balance and its compilation. Surface and groundwater conditions.
13. Performance of state administration in water protection, Czech Environmental Inspectorate, offences and administrative offences.
