Summary
The subject extends knowledge about causes of rock massiv and surface movement
as a result of mining subsidence, and possibilities of protection against
mining subsidence.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Course deals with causes of surface movement as a result of mining works, theory of effective area, prognosis calculation methods, possibilities of surface and mine object protection.
Course Contents
1. Mining damages, their origin and causes, the effects of undermining, the limits of mining
2. Theory of movements caused by the influence of mining works in the massif and on the surface
3. Movement in the overburden of the extracted part of the bearing, its propagation, the limit angle of influence
4. Decline, displacement, tilt, curvature and horizontal deformation
5. Factors affecting the magnitude of movement of surface points
6. Time course of surface descent.
7. Methods of preliminary calculations of surface point motion
8. Theoretical shape of subsidence trough and parameters of movement and deformation in it
9. Prognosis of undermining effects on surface and buildings, theory of fully effective surface.
10. Effective area distribution theory
11. Ensuring stability of surface objects. Preventive protection.
12. Protective pillars of surface objects. Design of protective pillars for flat bearing installation. Shapes of protective pillars.
13. Construction of protective pillars with inclined bearing. Principles of legislative surface protection.
14. Apparent mining damage
