Summary |
---|
The subject focuses on the principles of project management in geoinformatics, explaining basic approaches of waterfall, prototyping and agile methods of management, learn students how to used the Return of Investment (ROI) method, explaining economic aspects of projects, definition and assesment of costs and benefits of projects. The subject includes also the basic interpretation of technical standardization and the review of the most important standards, introduction to the selected European directives (mainly INSPIRE), main Czech laws related to geoinformatics and principles of building geoinformation infrastructures. |
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit |

The objective is to learn students basic principles of project management in geoinformatics, based on PMBOK, ROI, classic as well as agile methods of project management, monitoring of the project economy, principles of spatial information infrastructure building and selected laws and regulations. |
Course Contents |

1. GIS and differences between project management in GIS and IS.
2. Current situation in development of IS, trends
3. Project management according to PMBOK. Decomposition of activities.
4. Information strategies. Strategic planning of GIS.
5. The ROI method – prepare for a ROI project, identify a business oportunities, their prioritization, construction of GIS, definition of project control.
6. The ROI method – specify and cost a GIS project, estimate benefits, create the benefite roadmap, calculate financial metrics, build and present a report.
7. Selection and implementation of GIS according to Corte, Tomlinson and Clarke.
8. Prototyping
9. Agile methods of development. Unified process.
10. Recommendation for the GIS development. Selection of SW for GIS. GIS maintenance. Outsourcing.
11. Financial aspects of GIS projects. Benefits of GIS/GIT, their assesment and enumeration
12. Costs of GIS and GIT, their assesment and enumeration. Mid-term project evaluation.
13. Geoinformation infrastructure, GeoInfoStrategy, INSPIRE, NSDI, Basic Registers and other relevant laws. |
