4th International Week at VSB-TUO
4th International Week of the OP RDE Project took place at VSB - Technical University of Ostrava from 9th till 11th March 2020.

The event was attended by representatives from eight countries as well as representatives of the University management and faculty coordinators of individual faculties of VSB-TUO.

At the opening the participants were welcomed by the Rector of VSB-TUO, Prof. Václav Snášel. The launch of this year was also attended by the Deputy Minister for the Legislation and Strategy Section of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports Dr. Dana Prudíková and Ladislav Bánovec, Director of the International Relations Department of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports who mentioned priorities of the Ministry in the field of international cooperation. The Head of the University International Office, Dr. Michaela Vráželová briefly introduced the history and present of VSB - Technical University of Ostrava. Information on the Moravian-Silesian Region was provided by the Head of the International Relations Department of the Moravian-Silesian Region, Tomáš Fiedler. Then the individual representatives of the universities presented information or videos of their home universities.

The next morning, the participants met for a round table discussion on the topic of "Study and Mobility". The round table discussion was chaired by the Rector Prof. Václav Snášel. The discussion was also led by the Vice-Rector for Studies, Dr. Zdeňka Chmelíková, Vice-Dean for Studies at the Faculty of Economics, Assoc. Prof. Lenka Kauerová, and also Vice-Dean for Pedagogical Activities at the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology, Prof. Kamila Janovská. All foreign participants contributed to the discussion and talked about reality connected with their studies and their students' trips abroad. Together they sought ways how to convince students that a semester spent at a foreign university is an investment in their future. Several interesting suggestions resulted from this highly beneficial discussion. The University International Office will try to incorporate them into the students’ motivation programs.

As part of the afternoon program, the guests had the opportunity to explore the entire VSB-TUO campus in Poruba and they also visited IT4Innovations Supercomputing Center.

The program ended with a gala dinner in a restaurant.

On the third day, the round table discussion continued, this time on the topic of "Science and Research".

It was chaired by Prof. Jana Kukutschová, Vice-Rector for Science and Research. The Vice-Rector informed the participants about the current situation in the field of science and research at VSB-TUO. Prof. Kukutschová pointed out especially the great achievements of VSB-TUO in the field of contractual research where VSB-TUO ranks second in the Czech Republic. The discussion was also moderated by Assoc. Prof. Zdeněk Poruba, Vice-Dean for Internationalization and Human Resources. The third day ended with lunch and awarding of certificates to those participants who came under the Erasmus + program.

The event was funded by the Technique for the Future project.
