VSB-TUO will prepare thousands of litres of disinfection for the Regional Authority of the Moravian-Silesian Region
VSB – Technical University of Ostrava will prepare thousands of litres of disinfection for the Regional Authority of the Moravian-Silesian Region. For this purpose, the university will use all of its laboratories equipped for this purpose.

Based on an agreement between the Governor of the Region prof. Ivo Vondrák and the Rector of VSB-TUO prof. Václav Snášel, the university will start preparing the disinfectant for the needs of the Regional Authority of the Moravian-Silesian Region in the near future. The preparation will take place in the chemical laboratories of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology, Faculty of Mining and Geology, the Institute of Environmental Technologies, and the Centre of Nanotechnologies, and will amount to approximately 12,000 litres.

The university has yet to solve the supply of other chemicals that are needed, as well as human resources. “Despite the constraints under which we have to operate at the moment, we are trying to do our best to be forthcoming regarding the needs of the Regional Authority,” the Rector Snášel commented on the situation. The university has already produced 50 litres of rinse-free disinfection for its own Operations Department. For this disinfection, VSB-TUO followed to the guidelines issued by the World Health Organization.

The delivery for the Regional Authority of the Moravian-Silesian Region will be primarily intended for hand disinfection and, in addition to the confiscated alcohol acquired from the Customs Administration, it will contain glycerine, hydrogen peroxide and distilled water. These other components will be financed by the university from its own resources. “The supply of disinfection prepared by VSB-TUO will be used only for patients of regional hospitals and clients of regional social facilities,” said the Governor of the Region prof. Ivo Vondrák, and he added: “In the current emergency, we need to react quickly and flexibly, and use all possibilities to improve the situation.”
