Summary
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic theoretical and methodical bases of competitiveness issues from the point of view of sectoral and territorial aspects, which are subsequently applied to determinants and setting strategies to support and increase competitiveness in an international context and orientation towards the EU and its member states on the Czech economy and its regional development.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
1. Understand the essence of competitiveness and the factors that influence it and learn how to develop strategies to support it.
2. Analyse the concepts of national, regional and international competitiveness in the global world.
3. Evaluate and compare policies to boost competitiveness in the EU and the world (support for regional development, innovation systems, regional innovation strategies, the knowledge and information society).
Course Contents
1. Introduction to the course. Introduction to Competitiveness - Economic Theories.
2. Theoretical background approaches to measurement and competitiveness assessment.
3. Competitiveness as a global phenomenon of international business relations. International Competitiveness Strategy - Hard powers.
4. Globalisation processes in the world economy - impacts on the competitiveness of world regions. International Competitiveness Strategy - soft powers.
5. The requirements of the new economy - science-research-innovation and the knowledge-based economy as a means of increasing competitiveness.
6. The Territory as a Competitive Advantage and Disadvantage - Territorial Context of Competitiveness.
7. Competitiveness of the EU I - Specification of the concept and set of strategic / program measures to support competitiveness.
8. EU Competitiveness II - Compatibility with the EU's Common Trade Policy, competitiveness aspects of the internal and external market.
9. EU Competitiveness III - Compatibility with Cohesion Policy in the 2014-2020 programming period post-2020.
10. Regional Dimension of EU Competitiveness - Disparities and Regional Development Support with ESI Fund Support 2014-2020.
11. Competitiveness of the Czech Republic I - competitive advantages and disadvantages, local specifics.
12. Competitiveness of the Czech Republic II - National and European forms of support.
