Summary
The goal of the subject is to introduce a position of the EU in the world trade and define the EU trade policy and its principle and objectives as well as trade-policy instruments. In the end, the application of the EU trade policy in the Czech Republic, including Czech export strategy will be introduced.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
1. To explain differencies between intra and extra EU trade.
2. To formulate a principle of the concept "common policy" in the area of trade relations of the EU with third countries.
3. To categorise trade relations of the EU with third countries.
4. To arrange the preferential trade relations of the EU.
5. To assess the actual position of the EU in the world trade.
6. To assess a character of the EU trade policy and to compare it with the trade policy of the USA and other selected countries.
7. To conclude initiatives of the EU in the WTO frame.
8. To predict future direction of the EU trade policy.
Course Contents
Outline of Course:
1.Introduction to the course. World trade development.
2.The position of the EU in the world trade (extra + intra-EU trade).
3.The extra-EU trade and the implementation of the Common Commercial Policy of the EU.
4.The EU trade strategy.
5.Multilateral trading system and the World Trade Organization. The position of the EU in the WTO.
6.The autonomous trade-policy instruments of the EU (tariffs and non-tariff measures).
7.The conventional measures of the EU trade policy. Regional trade agreements.
8.Preferential system. The application of the autonomous preferences in the EU.
9.Non-preferential system. The trade relations of the EU with the main trading partners on the basis of the most-favoured nation.
10.Trade defence instruments – antidumping, countervailing duties and safequards.
11.Trade Barriers Regulation in the EU and trade disputes settlement in the WTO.
12.The history of the Czech trade policy before its entrance into the EU. The apllication of the EU trade policy in the Czech Republic.
13.The external trade support in the EU and the Czech Republic. The Czech export strategy.
14.Conclusion, discussion to the trade topic.
