VSB-Technical University of Ostrava strengthens its position in the 2022 THE Impact Rankings
The best ranking was achieved in the Affordable and Clean Energy category, where VSB-TUO is ranked first in the Czech Republic. In the Sustainable Cities and Communities category, the University shares the domestic top spot with two other Czech universities.
“The move up the rankings is great news for us. It is the result of our systematic work in fulfilling the third role of the University, but the result also reflects our research activities, for example in the field of energy,” said Jana Kukutschová, Vice-Rector for Science and Research.
A total of 17 goals set by the UN represent the development agenda for the period 2015-2030. They were formulated with the participation of all UN Member States, civil society, business, academia, and citizens from all continents, and represent the development agenda for the next 15 years (2015-2030). Only institutions reporting data in at least 4 of the 17 goals can be included in the overall ranking, with SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals being mandatory for all universities. This year, VSB-TUO participated in seven areas, including SDG 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions for the first time.
Compared to the previous year, VSB-TUO confirmed its excellent performance in SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy and SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, where it ranks 101-200 worldwide. The University is in the top 100 in SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, as well as in SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals, where it even outperformed the oldest Czech university. VSB-TUO ranks between 401 and 600 in SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and SDG 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. In SDG 4 Quality Education, it reached a shared position of 801-1000.
Five Czech universities were included in the overall ranking, two fewer than in the previous year. Charles University in Prague and Palacký University Olomouc are ranked 201-300, followed by Masaryk University (301-400) and VSB-TUO (401-600). The five representatives from the Czech Republic are rounded off by the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague (1000+).
The overall ranking assesses 1 406 universities from 106 countries, 289 more institutions than in the previous year. The overall top spot went to Western Sydney University, Australia. The latest edition of the rankings is available here.
