Subject syllabus

Natural and artificial radioactivity. Sources and types of ionizing radiation dosimetry. The basic objectives and principles of radiation protection, biological effects of ionizing radiation, nuclear reactor as a source of radiation. Kinetics and control the fission chain reaction, providing protective barriers as part of the concept of defense in depth, deterministic and probabilistic approach to the evaluation of nuclear safety. Current status of nuclear energy in the world and the basic types of nuclear power plant reactors, principles and construction of reactors used in the Czech Republic, other types of nuclear facilities and their characteristics in terms of safety. Active and passive systems for security, control and management systems, emergency systems. Safety culture and human factors, feedback from operational events. Management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. Radiation disasters and accidents.
