The course is focused on an overview of the basic methods of scientific research (basic and applied research, qualitative and quantitative), including systemic approach to scientific work. Furthermore, the subject includes the theory of measurement, processing and evaluation of the measured experimental data and measurement uncertainty. Emphasis is placed on understanding the logical construction of the experiment and the proper use of statistical methods in the measurement results.
Part of the course is focused on explaination of the theoretical principles of basic diffraction and imaging experimental methods used for materials study, and also advanced physical methods of imaging and chemical microanalysis.
optical microscopy, electron microscopy
X-ray and electron diffraction
microanalysis electron probe
chromatography, electrophoresis, infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis
