Subject syllabus

1. The objectives of the EU's economic policy. Economic, social and territorial cohesion. Enlargement versus deepening EU integration. Multi-speed vs. tighter EU.
2. The legal, institutional and financial prerequisites for the over-regulation and implementation of economic policy in the European Union. Common EU budget. Treaty of Lisbon - Tackling Democracy Deficit, Subsidiarity.
3. Deepening integration integration from the customs union to a single internal market. Economic and political measures necessary for its operation. A single European act. Harmonization of taxes. European pillar of social rights.
4. Competition policy and its importance for a single internal market. The issue of cartels and concerted practices, dominant market positions and state aid to firms. Consumer protection policy.
5. Monetary cooperation in Europe from the 1950s to the 1990s. The European Monetary System, its functioning and effectiveness.
6. The stages of the formation of the European Economic and Monetary Union. The ECB's common monetary policy. Formation of the banking union.
7. Co-operation in the field of fiscal policy. Formation of the fiscal union.
8. The EU's position in international trade relations. Common commercial policy.
9. Common Agricultural Policy and its Reforms. Rural recovery policy. Common Fisheries Policy.
10. Common transport policy. Building trans-European networks.
11. EU structural policy. European Structural and Investment Funds. Support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
