Subject syllabus

Theories of international trade. Globalisation of trade flows. Competitiveness in international trade. Internationalisation of production and trade, economic openness. The Grubel-Lloyd index and intra-industry trade. Herfindahl index of concentration. Trade with intermediate products, export diversification, revealed comparative advantages. Modelling of trade flows, gravity models and their modification, the CGE model. Multilateral trade liberalisation, commitments on roll-back and standstill in the WTO and the WTO+. The issues of GATT, GATS and TRIPS. Trade policy instruments and new forms of protectionism in international trade. The quantification of trade policy. Trade preferences and regional trade agreements, the effects of trade preferences – Mead´s and Balassa´s models. The intensity of regional trade and trade complementarity.
